A friend is having a problem. He turns on his computer and gets a message
that says "Overide". Lightning struck near where he lives. Would that have
anything to do wit his problem. (I'm trying to help an elderly friend.)
Thank you.

Do you have direct access to the machine, or are you helping your friend via
telephone? A detailed account of what appears on the screen up to the time
it goes no further would be very helpful. I don't recall any normal Windows
error message that says, "Override", and I'm assuming it's a hardware issue
that prompts the message right after starting up. In that case, and if this
started happening right after the lightening strike, it's very likely that
there's been some damage. Diagnosis would probably require an expert who's
in possession of some spare parts, but if you can provide more details,
there might be more hints to extract..

Yes, this may indicate hardware damage
following the lightning strike. If the PC will
not boot DOS from a known good floppy (and
if it formerly worked OK) the main board may
be damaged. You cannot do anything to help
by telephone.
