Starcraft best seller series cd key

I have the original with a cd key but it will not allow me to enter it when prompted

Contact Blizzard then. Its an issue that they should be able to solve if its legit.

I may have had this with SC as well, and it turned out I was trying to register a different number combination that happened to be on the box/cd/manual.

Then again, that might've been another game. I know for a fact I tried to do that with a windows (xp?) install once.

Have you tried registering it on battle.net and then downloading it? You should be able to link the CD key to your battle.net account.
