Hi. I recently got problems with my 8y old pc. On startup , it refused to start. When I unplugged 1 of my 3 screens , it started up again. When I wanted to shut down the pc , the screens go dark as they should , but the pc keeps running , so I need to shut it off manually.

Last week , while gaming , my keyboard + headset lights started flickering and both became unresponsive. Games do run normal once i got the pc started.

PC Specs
CPU: i7-7800X
GPU: GTX 1080 Ti
RAM: 32GB
PSU: Corsair CX500M 500w

I don't have enough knowledge to know what the problem could be and I don't want to randomly spend money replacing parts as it's expensive.

My thoughts are : Maybe I need to replace the CPU or maybe the MOBO is the problem ?

Hoping to find help here so I can finaly have a normal working pc again ....

Hey there,

Well for a start, you should get yourself a suitable power supply for your PC. Yours is underpowered, and not a very good one at that. It most certainly could be causing issues like this.

Are all of your system drivers and bios up to date? If not, start by doing that.

Try running sfc scannow, and DISM: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...em-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e
Hi. Thanks for helping !

I always install windows updates and my gpu is also always updated. I have never done a BIOS update in my life. I have a new PSU - brand Cooler Master gold 850. Would that Be good enough ?

Okay, are the symptoms the same, and remain?

I suspect this could be solved with updating the bios, as it may be a bug or a known issue as the OS and hardware drivers are updated, with the bios remaining outdated, could cause issues like this.

What mobo are you running?
I had no time yet to install the new PSU. Hopefully in 2 days I can find the time.

The mobo I have is " MSI X299 Tomahawk.

Today I updated the BIOS (first time I did that). The old BIOS was dated from 2017. The one installed now , from MSI website , is dated 2022. I tried to shut down the pc but it was still stuck and after 10 mins I pressed the on off button to shut it down myself. In the picture , the new BIOS info.

I installed the new PSU and the pc starts up normal and shutting it down or restarting also works ... The PSU that was in the pc was installed by a company and as I was removing it , I noticed that 2 small cables from that big plug u connect to the mobo , where loose ! I never messed with the pc myself before so this was something that company did. I wish I checked my pc inside from day 1 ....

Sometimes after the bios update, it will take a couple of restarts to retrain the memory. This is normal. Just let it boot and run a few times, then it will be grand :)
