Hi all,

The rig I built for my GF is having an issue on startup. It runs Win 7 Pro 64bit. During startup, all is well until after the Win logo. It goes to a greyish screen for about 2 to 3 minutes, then goes to normal login screen. Not the end of the world-style, but still very annoying.

Isolating the problem attempts so far:
- Ran safe mode. Problem exists in safe mode.
- Reseated RAM. Problem persists.
- Ran half-RAM. Problem persists.
- Updated all drivers (including vid).
- Disabled nearly all startup programs.
- Malwarebytes showed no issues.
- Tried a rollback trough system restore, unfortunately they had been removed in a CCleaner run earlier this month.

The rig:
Win7 Ultimate 64-Bit
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core
Crucial BX100 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (BOOT)
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM
G-skill ripjaws DDR3-1600 32GB
MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX750Ti

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The laptop came with a win cd

Win 7 Pro
Win 7 Ultimate

WHich?

And the Win 7 install DVD from a laptop might not work on all different hardware. It is looking for different parts and trying to install the wrong drivers.

And of course, any license associated with that install won't be applicable to your desktop.

^ agree, if that's a dvd to recreate windows, it's possibly an image of what it should be vs an installation. I've done some very very quick installs from laptop DVD's simply because all they are doing is copying the data to the hdd as opposed to 'installing' a unique installation.

Well it has been working fine for over a year now, win7 ultimate by the way, not pro, my bad. Do you believe the windows installation itself is the issue? Eeven after a year + of working and updating just fine? The DVD shipped with the laptop was just a separate copy of win 7 ult we ordered with it as the laptop did not come with any OS installed.
