Hello,

So, I recently put a new computer together that has been doing well the last month or so, until now. When I booted it up this morning, everything seemed to be going fine, it went past the initial screen, then past the motherboard screen. But, after that, I get stuck on something talking about my EFI shell version 2.3, or something along those lines.

The top of the screen says "EFI Shell version 2.31 [4.651] - Current running mode 1.1.2" followed below by "Device mapping table" which includes what seems to be a bunch of hard disks that it calls fs0, fs1, fs2 and blk0, blk1, blk2.

Finally, the last line says "Press ESC in 1 seconds to skip startup.nsh, or any other key to continue". Nothing happens when I try pressing ESC or any other key though, and I can give commands by typing where "Shell>" is (it's below the "last" line). For example, if I type exit and press enter, I will enter BIOS.

I don't know how to get past this screen and I can't remember doing anything in particular lately that could have caused this problem. Please help.

Thanks,

Joe

Here are my specs:
I7 3770K
GTX 670
MSI Z77
Corsair TX 650W
8gigs of 1600~ MHz ram
Western Digital Green 1TB (for programs and most games)
Corsair SSD 120GB (with OS on, along with a few games and programs)

Bumping is against forum rules, but I would suggest going into the BIOS and selecting "Reset to Optimized Defaults" or whatever your particular MB has. Could be "Factory Default Settings".
I had this issue after cleaning my case but without the list of drives listed, I still tired all the help listed but to no help. After stressing, I went back over what I'd done and remembered I'd removed my drives power cable to tidy up the wiring. Plugged in again and it ran first time.

I know this was all my stupidity but I thought I'd post just to tell people to just relax and check over what you might of done beforehand, it's very easy to overlook things.

For those who had this issue after enabling Windows 8 features in BIOS, I found that when I enabled these features, somehow the boot order of the disk drives in my system changed and my OS drive was no longer first in line. I changed this back and it booted no problem. I wonder if the BIOS is trying to find fast boot files on some other drive and that's why it's hitting another drive first? But then when it looks for those files it can't find them and craps the bed.

FWIW:
MSI Z97M Gaming
4790K
EVGA GTX 980 SC
16GB Ripjaws @ 1600MHz
850 Evo SSD

I've tried doing everything but it's still on the EFI screen. I've tried moving the SATA connection to different ports in the Motherboard. If you guys can give me a set of instructions to help me, that would be great!

I'm using this:
AMD A4 3300 processor
4GB DDR3
WD Blue 500GB
MSI A55M-P33 Motherboard
350W PSU

Please help, Anthony

I had this problem on a simple SSD based Vulcan laptop. At first, when I typed exit, it would continue and come up into windows normally. Eventually this stopped working and when I typed exit it would go to the BIOS menus. Switching drives wasn't an option because it only has the internal SSD drive. I was able to find an option in the BIOS to reset to defaults and that worked perfectly.

I have same mobo and same problem, changing sata cable port and pulling out cmos battery won't work.I solved this with putting a jumper at 2 pin (jbat) near cmos battery for a few seconds,i turn on while jumper on the pin it wont boot, take off that jumper and i turn on my pc and whoop my pc boot to the os..You need to borrow a jumper from another mobo.

Disconnect all power. Open the case to your computer. Look on your Motherboard. Look for a flat battery, like the same kind you use in your wrist watch. Make sure one hand is touching the metal inside the case so you can ground yourself and not shock any of your components. Use your other hand to pop the battery out. Leave it out for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat the same steps and put the battery back in. As it's booting up make sure to open the CDROM and ensure there is no CD in it. This may effect your boot up as well.

After this is done, go into BIOS like you did originally. Go to your advanced settings and DISABLE windows 8/8.1/10 Support. Save and exit. After it reboots you should be good to go.

I got the same problem with MSI GAMING 5 Z97 Mother board.
I changed the jumper setting - nothing happened.
Removed the battery - yet no changes
Changed the SATA cables - nothing
But the solution was just disabled the window 8/8.8/10 features in the bios setting.
It works fine now.
Hope this solution will help you.
