Static grounding with plug in.

How well would it work to modify a standard plug in to just be a ground wire and attach your wrist straps/mat to the wire?

Just me being excessive for this build I'm a boat to do. I want a zero chance for static

If you buy a re-wireable plug, pretty easy. Just be very careful to use the earth pin and not the line (AKA active, phase) or neutral pins.

You may need to put some packing around the cable so the grip holds it properly.

This is totally overkill, though.

Overkill is totally my goal lol. It'd be super easy to do I wonder why it isn't more standardized with wrist straps.

A few other things: The wrist strap needs to have a 1Mohm resistor somewhere between it and ground. This is usually done right on the plug. Don't chop the cable between the wrist strap and the plug; that's a very bad idea.

How about if I stick the 1mohm restore into the wall (ground plug) then clip my alligator clips for my wrist straps and mat to that?

Seriously, you're going way overkill, and by playing around with the mains you're more likely to seriously hurt yourself than the components.
