Do I need a static IP address for p/forwarding,i have read that you do cos a dynamic IP may change is this correct?

Hi. Lets start from here: If you are behind router and need to forward a port you need to make sure of 1 thing
You can bind an internal IP to your machine to make sure your IP dont change
After this you just go to your NAT setting/Port forwarding and open the desired port to that IP

However if you want to bee seen from outer network (i.e. you start server) you need Real IP which is obtained by your ISP (ofc after you pay)

yes I wish to setup a multiplayer server,so they need to see me from the outer world.do I need to contact my isp, I thought I could find my own external and internal ip address and use those? no? my ports are correct as I checked them with port checker. or wont it work as you said, I thought it might work as it said the ip was valid when I set it up
there is no mention of contacting my isp in the instructions on how to run a multiplayer server.other ppl have set them up with no mention of this either only same instructions as the dev site

To make sure you have your real IP set up compare the one you see in http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and the one you typed for your router. If they are the same then yes, you have it right and you dont need to contact the ISP

No, there's a good chance you do not need a static IP address for the purpose of port forwarding for hosting games.

The way in which port forwarding works is, in essence, you have a series of application layer ports accessible from computers on your lan by default. However, as these ports are only local, they will need to be "forwarded" and also possibly placed in a demilitarised zone depending on your router for the ports to be visible to the outside world.

Your ip moving around could be an issue, however there are some very simple workarounds for this. Take dynamic DNS for instance.

There are free dynamic DNS services available online (no-ip etc) which will update a domain name on a basis as frequently as you choose with the latest external ip of your router. From this, people will be able to enter your domain name into the game (example.ddns.net) and join to your most up to date ip. If the game does not support Ddns then you may also be able to use the service, but your friends will have to do nslookup example.ddns.net to get the ip and then enter the ip in game.

simply typing it wont do anything... if its different than what you have you should call your provider and ask for real IP (like i said it will cost additionaly)
Imo its way easyer to set a VPN there are plenty of guides in google

I discovered the server is visible, and the ports are set up correctly so all is fine. the ip address is correct also which I originally had . for some reason the port checker you told me to use wouldn't work,i don't know why,the port checker I used worked and said they were open.so now my question why wouldn't the port checker that you recommended work.cos all this conflicting info just confuses me yet I made no errors. the ip address I used is the one in the router and I just added a zero to it aswell as it didn't cost me a cent?

I have port forwarded correctly the server is visible, but the ip address that the port checker detected wasn't the same as the router ip. I was told to see if they match.they didn't it just confused me,the ip I used was in the router in the nat /virtual servers, where I just added a zero.i watched ely's tutorial video on how to do it so now ,y only concern is that it might change like you said.but when I tried to change my ip myself (by watching a different video)I couldn't seem to change it,the reason I tried to change it is cos i'm quite sure I was getting d dosed
