What is the difference between Static IP and Manual Ip address?
I bought a new ipcam and wanted to assign a static ip to it, as i had done so for my other ipcams successfully via their bundled software. However the new ipcam bundled software does not have any option to fix its local ip to static. Therefore i went in to my router, and the best i could do is to assign "Manual IP" addresse to this new ipcam. Everything is working fine, but now i have some cameras listed as StaticIp in my Asus router, whilst the new ipcam gets listed as Manual ip. What differences is there, especially in terms of how fixed is the fixed adress of these cameras labelled as "static" or "manual".

The difference is that static IP means that the DHCP server checks the device's MAC address and if it founds it in the static assignments list, it will assign that IP to the device. Otherwise, it gets the next available "random" IP address.

Manual means that you set everything on the device manually. So, it will be asking the gateway for that specific IP address, and the gateway will assign it to that if it's available. If anything is set up incorrectly, the device will not get an IP at all.

In your case, it seens that the new camera does have an IP, so you have nothing to worry about, it'll work just like the others.

Thanks pal. I understand from you answer that static is selected the router will assigned a fixed address from available pool to always fix to the device with that specific mac address. However i do recall when setting up my previous ipcam, i actually typed in my preferred static address on the cam propietary setup sw, and this address would subsequntly be listed as static in my asus router.... i think the router got confused in my previous ipcamera....
