Static shock from microusb cable pluged into pc

Yesterday i got a static shock from my microusb cable i have plugged into my pc, can this damage components?

Yes, it potentionally can cause damage, espechially the usb controller in the oposite end.

I didnt have it plugged in to anything at the time, only the usb end was plugged into my pc, i touched the micro end. Is this even static or did it just discharge power from pc?
