Just got my brand new Steam Deck OLED today and I'm having real problems with connecting to my flats ORBI home router. Trying to connect to it from gaming mode / anything other than desktop mode is hopeless, and it often gets stuck attempting it. The Deck also can't connect from a cold start, it tries to and fails.

I do not have this issue if I Hotspot off my Samsung A55 phone, it connects and works flawlessly.

Also, if I go into desktop mode from a cold start, and connect to my flat's home WIFI from there, it works totally fine. If I then go back into gaming mode, it works fine from there on. But I don't want to have to do this every damn time I boot the deck. This also persists after a factory reset.

How do I solve this?

This:

"The Deck also can't connect from a cold start, it tries to and fails."

Any error messages etc.?

Also check the router's logs (if available and enabled).

As an initial thought, take a close look at the network and IP addresses being used when connectivity works and does not work.

I have had the issues as of today though this is not my first time with them. I too have an ORBI and I can not connect to. However, my hot spot on my s23 ultra without issue. I have checked the logs on my ORBI and there appears to be no activity from my steam deck since yesterday.

So, I recently upgraded from my orbit to a tp-link mesh network. If you happened to have the exact same setup that I had, then we were experience some end of life issues with the devices. Orbi had stopped supporting that router some time ago and it caused my whole house to slowly loose connection. I have since had zero issues with the new wifi 7 router.
