Hi guys I'm very new to PC gaming and recently have realized when I downloaded Steam I did so in a folder named Skyrim, because it was my first game. Recently I've realized that all my games and Steam run through this folder, which is easy to understand. However, I have tried to change the name of the folder, but I cannot start my games. Is there a setting where I can go and change the folder and have the games start-up? Is there a setting where I can go on Steam and change the name of the folder Steam finds the game through then launches it? Sorry if this is a noob question, as I said I'm new to PC gaming.

Solution
This post assumes skyrim was installed stand alone. By default steam uses a folder called steamapps to store each game or program. You can make new libraries, but it is only worth it to install on multiple drives. The default steam settings are best for most users.

-I recommend you make a copy of this steam folder. Close steam first. So lets say copy c : \ skyrim \ steam to your desktop or something
-Uninstall Steam. this is done in the add remove programs section of the control panel
-Reinstall steam to its proper location. Select a location or just install to the default program files \ steam location
-copy the folder you coped earlier back over the new steam folder location(overwrite everything). Close steam first
-Open steam and...

-Once you are sure everything is working, you can remove the steam folder from the skyrim folder and remove the copy you made on the desktop.

You can also just copy the steamapps folder if needed, but with a current load of steam, the full folder should be fine and easy enough to do.
