[SOLVED] Steam Overlay cutting out my sound/mic?

Hey guys,

So recently I purchased a brand new EVGA GTX 1060 6GB graphics card from Newegg. Arrived fine, installed it, everything went smoothly. However, after using it for a little while, I've noticed that when I use certain applications/functions, all of the sound on my computer will go away for a few seconds. (This even includes disabling my microphone, it seems.)

This primarily occurs when I utilize the in-game Steam Overlay while playing games, or just happens randomly when I play Overwatch.

I thought this might be a driver issue with the new GPU, so I've done 3-4 clean installs of the latest graphics drivers, from both the provided CD and from the latest downloadable drivers from Nvidia. These fresh installs have yielded nothing 🙁 I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with this card, or knows if this is a hardware/software issue. Any feedback is appreciated!

System Specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3
CPU: AMD FX-8350
RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Headset: Plantronics Gamecom 780 (This is a USB headset, not 3.5mm.)

Solution
you've made sure that everything is good to go with drivers for your headset?
This isn't a GPU issue.

I recommend NOT using Steam overlay and just disabling it.

also want to note how funny it is that you've got a similar setup to what I had when I used the FX series CPU's.
I too had that exact same motherboard but I had the 8320e Black Edition CPU.
I also had the Ripjaws memory.

Yeah, I'll try disabling the Steam Overlay and see if that helps. I'll also try reinstalling my Headset drivers and get back to you. Thanks
