every year Linux gets better, Windows gets (arguably) worse for tech-savvy people, no wonder some people are past their tipping points.

TBH 8 core cpu are sweet spot as its not too many but not too few & will last you many yrs before its outdated.

Starting with Intel's hybrid chips it's also a lot easier to get an "8 core" system, even if half, or more, of the cores are "E" cores.

True, but the survey does not distinguish between laptop and desktop chips, and there are mobile chips with that configuration, like the i3-13300HE, and entire series where the E core count exceeds the P core count, like the U series, like what is found in Microsoft Surface tablets.
