Dear Moderators and Administrators,
Those of us who have contributed Sticky's to the various Forums, are continually amazed at the overwhelming number of repetitive threads posted by new members, who at first, are largely unaware that Tom's actually has Sticky's. Since my fellow authors have labored to provide the Forums with a wealth of knowledge through their individual areas of expertise, I'm certain we all agree that our Sticky's are valuable resources which benefit everyone. However, in all fairness to new members at Tom's Forums, I must point out that the Sticky's are not clearly identified.
It is somewhat less than obvious to the casual observer that the first few posts at the top of each Forum might be Sticky's because they're in bold, and have a little red arrow --> to their left. Nevertheless, countless new members have stated that they never noticed the Sticky's until they were informed, due to the lack of a clear visual cue. As I recall, about 2 years ago, the Sticky's had a "Sticky Note" Icon next to them which said "Sticky" so the Sticky's were unmistakable, just as can be seen within the Forums of many other computer enthusiast websites.
I fail to understand how changing from the original, easily recognizable Sticky Note Icon, to the present Arrow Icon would help anyone to quickly and clearly identify which threads are Sticky's. I submit that if new Forum members are confronted with clearly labeled Sticky's when viewing the Forums for the first time, then the Sticky's would be better utilized toward their intended purpose, the number of redundant threads would decrease, and the quality of content accross the Forums would increase.
Please help us to improve the Forums by restoring the Sticky Note Icons to our Sticky's.
Respectfully,
CompuTronix
EDIT: A potentially simple solution may be as follows:
Since 10 assorted Icons are already available for the column adjacent to the thread, include the suggested "Sticky Note" Icon, then make it "hidden" to users, and selectable through administrator privileges only.
■An additional suggestion is to include "View Sticky's" to the categories under the "Forums" Tab at the top of Tom's Hardware "Home" page.
