Can anyone help me with a problem that I seem to have on my Android tablet. I am not a techie but can understand basic advice if you can give it.
I have a generic brand tablet ( Mediatek ,I think). It is running on Android 6 and when I bought it a couple of years ago it was advertised as having
32 gb storage and 2 gb of RAM. This is all one on drive, I presume, as there is no external SD card and no slot to insert one.

The problem I have is that certain processes seem to suggest I am out of storage space. Various File Explorer apps I have used state that I have only used about 18 gb out of a possible 32 gb, ie plenty of space available. When I try to transfer something like a film or two onto it, a message tells me I am out of space !! Interestingly, one particular File Explorer app only shows up 16 gb though four others say 32 gb. When I plug the tablet into my PC and go to "Properties" it says the file system is Generic Hierarchial"

So, can anyone advise me what I might do to "release" the space I thought I had. I recently took the drastic step of doing a full factory reset, hoping it would solve the problem, but it has made no difference - I still seem to have access to only 16 gb, not 32 gb. HELP !!!!

ps: I took screenshots of the apps showing various storage readouts which I have on my PC - but I can't work out how to post them up here ! Sorry.

We do not allow directly uploading a screenshot so you'll need to host the image on sharing site, such as imgur, and then link us to it.

I'm not sure where the cutoff is version-wise but many android tablets have a separate 2gb main/boot drive and then the internal storage drive. I suspect you've filled your internal 2gb drive if that is indeed the case.

Thank you for your reply. I see from my screenshots that according to my system analyser app I am using only 900 mb out of a total of 1950 mb so it does not look like I am running out of space. If I have 32 gb total storage why aren't my files/downloads being sent there??? I should have plenty of space left???

Re screenshots I have tried uploading to Cloud and pasting URL above but it's not letting me do it. However, all the screenshots show is what I've written above - 800 mb used out of 1950 available and 18 gb storage used out of 31.5 gb available.

Any further suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Is there an FCC ID printed on a label on your tablet?

If so, then you might be able to identify the storage device in the internal photo, eg ...

https://fccid.io/A2HRCT6773W22/Internal-Photos/Internal-Photos-2406182

You can capture your storage info in text form as follows:

  • R-click your Windows icon, select Run and type "msinfo32".

Drill down to Components -> Storage -> Disks

Click the first line in the RH pane and type Ctrl-A followed by Ctrl-C.

Then paste your clipboard data into a word processor, eg NotePad, by typing Ctrl-V.

Extract the pertinent info and paste it into your next post.

Again, thanks for replying. I could not really follow the instructions for accessing the information as it looked a bit complicated for me. However, I downloaded two different apps "Device Info" & "CPU-X") to get the info. Interesting thing is that they gave two different readouts when it came to storage info.

Anyway, I typed it all out and post it below. I hope you can find some meaning in all this, especially as different apps say I have different amount of storage. As originally posted by me, the same thing happens with File Explorer apps - most read 32 gb storage while one reads it as 16 gb.

This really is a puzzle and I'd love to get it sorted
