Hii all,

My wife is pregnant with twins and i've decided to document their life growing up from infancy to adulthood through photo's and videos chronologically, like facebook to present to them on their 21st birthday.

I would use facebook but i really don't trust them and fear that my 'gift' could be 'lost' by them...

Is there any software out there which i can use to build this? one of my concerns is the software would need to be usable throughout windows 10 - windows '24'

im also worried about using cloud services incase my stuff gets 'lost' ...

i'm really a bit clueless where to start and would love to hear your ideas?

Solution
Software?
A folder tree, with year and month subfolders.
Save video and jpg as needed.

Save copies of this on multiple drives.

Any fancy 'app' will become unusable quite soon.

As USAFRet said, store the files in folders that are properly labeled with times and dates. Make sure you keep at least on backup of these files.

When it's time, you can create a slideshow of both the videos and Pictures. Of course, by that time, they may have something else that you can turn them into.

I could manually store them on a few HDD's i guess with folders / descriptions as you've suggested.

I guess at the price of HDD's this would be alot cheaper than paying for cloud storage for 18 years. The only risk is if the HDD fails, but you can recover most of the data i believe.

i believe it works out ~250 photo's per GB (if each jpg is 4mb), thats 250,000 pictures per TB - a 3TB HDD would be ideal if i record videos on my phone in mp4 format i think.

If the HDD 'fails', that is what the backup copy on the other HDD is for.
1 for 1 file copy...if one drive dies...poof, there is the other.

Don't rely on 'recovery' functions if the drive fails. Instead, rely on a 100% copy on a second drive.
And then a 3rd copy offsite, refreshed monthly.
