I thought it would be easy to back-up my data files onto a DVD. I have been
doing it onto CD's for years but I can't discover how to do it.

I researched on the web and it seems that Microsoft did not make it possible
to do this but will in the next OS version.

I can find out quite a lot about saving a video to a DVD but nothing about
saving data.

It is possible?

Thanks,

Noel

Do you have an actual DVD burner (this is different than the CD Burner)?

No, XP never has had built-in burning software/utilities for DVD types, only
CD-R(W)s; I don't know about their next OS, so I cannot say what that will
bring for DVD burning.

Yes, you can save data to a DVD, just like a CD-R(W) disk, as long as you
have a DVD burner with the corresponding DVD burning software with it. You
can have a DVD burner, but XP will not (itself) burn to DVDs. But XP can
burn CD-R(W)s through a DVD burner, as (most that I know) DVD burners can
create data CDs and DVDs.

WinXP cannot actually burn DVDs, you'l need some external software such as
nero (www.nero.com) or Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator (www.roxio.com) to do this.

I only have a Roxio CD burner - and a Sonic MyDVD but I think that only
makes videos.

I guess I have to buy a DVD burner - any recommendations?

Thanks,

Noel

Why not try the software's help file before you just assume you
need omething different. Search for "DATA DVD" or similar.
