Got a problem with a new card I have just installed.
I used to have a 5900XT. When installing and playing Far cry and doom3, both
autodetect programs for setting graphics quality, put the 5900 at medium.
Having now installed the new XFX 6800, I re-ran the setup routine for Far
cry, and it detected as medium. I ran the doom one, and it autodetected for
LOW.
Tried and succeded in softmodding the 6800 to a GT spec, and it made no
difference.
Is something up with the card or the program

I believe it's just the program, mine has done different auto detect
settings for seemingly no reason as well. It stopped after one change on my
system.

I'm using a BFG 6600GT.

My 6800GT was set to low/medium settings in Far Cry too, Doom 3 I can't
remember. You will have to manually up them.

In about 75% of games, the autodetection is completely useless. 🙂

The dirty explanation would be: the 6800 didn't exist when Far Cry was
produced, so it was not recognized amongst the list of "tested" video cards,
so the game defaults to the lowest settings...

Remember how Quake II always starts at 320x240, software rendering, when run
for the first time? It's the safest way to go.

I was hoping that was the case.
Have set everything to high in FarCry and it looks beautifull.
Got a problem with Doom 3 though so have started a new thread
Cheers
