[SOLVED] Strange behavior where "Power Options" keeps removing Hibernate ?

I have a strange problem where my computer (Windows 10) started to never follow the hibernate or sleep instructions, i.e., when I set the power options to sleep after 10 minutes of idle, or hibernate after 20 minutes, it never did! I tried everything, with no luck, even I contacted Microsoft support, they failed to fix it.
The new strange thing is that started three days ago, is that the Hibernate option in the start menu, and in the power button totally disappeared.
I searched the web, and found a method to restore it by powercfg /hibernate on, the weird thing, is that something keeps turning this option off again, every some hours or minutes!
I don't know what causes this! I have a licensed antivirus installed, and I performed a full scan with 0 detections, then downloaded other anti-malware, and it found 0 as well.

My system has a Radeon RX 570, 32 GB RAM, it-7700K CPU, and Samsung SSD.

thanks for any suggestions

Solution
right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth
and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow
and press enter

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

it could be a startup program removing it, have you got any programs that came with PC that can change settings?

it doesn't delete anything, just stops things running with windows at start up, easily reversed.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Thank you for your answer,
I have followed all that you suggested, but unfortunately, the Hibernate option keeps disappearing, just after restart!

Any other suggestions?

the weird thing, is that something keeps turning this option off again, every some hours or minutes!
have a look in task scheduler and see if anything in there looks like it could be cause.

which version of win 10

  1. right click start
  2. choose run...
  3. type winver and press enter
  4. current version is 21H2

what motherboard do you have?

do you use logon on more than one PC?
It might be sync settings. Go to settings/accounts/sync your settings
try turning it off as if you have hibernate off on one device and on, on an another, it might be confusing the roaming profile.

I did, the tasks are so many, I didn't notice anything weird!
which version of win 10
Version 21H2 Build 19044.1586
what motherboard do you have?
My motherboard is: MSI Performance Gaming Intel Z270 DDR4 HDMI USB 3 SLI ATX Motherboard (Z270 GAMING PRO)
My graphics card is: Sapphire 11266-09-20G Radeon NITRO+ RX 570 8GB GDDR5 DUAL HDMI / DVI-D / DUAL DP with backplate (UEFI) PCI-E Graphics Card
do you use logon on more than one PC?
No, I only have on PC
It might be sync settings. Go to settings/accounts/sync your settings... try turning it off
Despite having only one system, I disabled the mentioned Sync option

its worth a try disabling sync. I only had one PC but swapped screen size and it would load a 1080p wallpaper at launch, I had a 4k screen. Its worked itself out since then.

I don't think MSI Afterburner can change power options
Not sure if MSI Gaming app can do it

MSI seem to have redesigned website, it didn't look like this last time I visited one - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z270-GAMING-PRO/support#utility

I am wondering if its a driver, as it would still work regardless of clean start.

Can you download and run Driverview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html
All it does is looks at drivers installed; it won't install any (this is intentional as 3rd party driver updaters often get it wrong)

When you run it, go into view tab and set it to hide all Microsoft drivers, will make list shorter.

Now its up to you, you can look through the drivers and try to find old drivers, or you can take a screenshot from (and including)Driver name to (and including)Creation date.
upload it to an image sharing website and show link here

I am just curious what I might find.

I did it, but nothing was fixed, unfortunately!

I would like to add something I noticed:
Each time I left the computer idle, it switches off the screen, then the hibernate option disappears! I have a batch file with the following commands in it, each time the command disappears I return it by them, but once idle, it removes hibernate again! powercfg /hibernate on powercfg /h /type full

Can you download and run Driverview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

I downloaded the utility, and the complete text list is pasted here:

and the Screenshot is posted here:

Many thanks for your sincere care.

I think the system should know. It must be recorded somewhere that its happened.
there is a hibernation event log but not sure if it tracks changes.
the 2 answers here might help = https://superuser.com/questions/1258473/display-all-power-related-events-turn-on-off-sleep-hibernate
I have tried the two tools, but can't figure out what forces the power options change!

Is there anything in the registry that I can edit, or see if it causes the change because I know that the registry is loaded on startup and when back from sleep (as of my best knowledge)?
Do you know the default settings of the power-related keys in the registry?

wonder if resting the default power plans will do it

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/110372-restore-missing-default-power-plans-windows-10-a.html

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
restores all themes to defaults.
if you do anything in registry, back it up first - https://neosmart.net/wiki/backup-restore-registry/
this shows to enable hibernation in registry
to set active power plan in registry - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials...t-active-power-plan-windows-10-a.html#option4
