Strange compatibility question, pc partpicker was no help

I'm going to build a new pc soon but can't afford to get everything quite yet. The problem is that my current machine just blew the GPU. So my idea is to get the GPU and the PSU that I want for my new build and put them in my old pc to get by until then.

My current set-up (don't laugh)

HP Pavilion m7674n (2006)
P5BW-LA (Basswood) motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400

The parts I want to add:
Gigabyte GTX 970 gaming
EVGA 750w gold

Question is, are the above compatible?


The card that blew was a GTX 470, given to me because in-op, bake it in the oven and it works for a few weeks, getting tired of doing that and it's working for shorter periods now.

The 970 will be hugely bottlenecked by the E6400, you can use the 970 with it until you upgrade but don't expect great performance.
