Hi so I recently started using my PC again after two months and it turns out that whenever I run some game on it, such as Far Cry 4 on high settings some strange whirring noise comes from the power supply like someone is sticking a pencil in a fan. Anyone know why this problem seems to be occurring and how to fix it?

First guess would be litterally that there is something hitting the power supply fan blade.

DO NOT open the metal case for the power supply, safety risk even unplugged.

Look at fan with flashlight. Any chance a wire inside the PSU is hitting the fan? Maybe a big clump of dust ?

Maybe open case up and make sure it is your power supply fan instead of another fan (chasis? video card? CPU?) that you are hearing through the holes in the power supply. Both Video fan and CPU fan should ramp up quite a bit gaming. Very few PSU will have variable fan speed.

Turns out that after a while the strange fan noise seemed to have stopped. But recently, the same problem has started again. Even when I am using the PC just for typing up documents the noise starts, sometimes after half an hour or even five minutes. I have checked the entire PC and the main noise seems to be occurring from the PSU. I'm going to try to check it with a flashlight.

So i checked it with a flashlight everything seems fine. When i dont hear something hitting the fan im usually hearing a noise, kind of like static/buzzing that keeps getting louder and louder and then suddenly stops, but idk where that one is coming from. Would you have any idea what's wrong with that?
