[SOLVED] Strange symbols in Bios menus / Problem booting

My computer was working great and one day it crashed and just went to a black screen (never in my life has that happened). Later discovered CMOS battery was bad and replaced it; not just low voltage but I may have read a short on it w my Ohm meter. I may have misread it because later there was no short.

Since then I have been having booting problems and also noticed weird characters in the Bios menus.

I tried clearing the CMOS using both methods - pressing the CMOS clear button as well as removing the battery.

I also went as far flashing the bios using the Q-Flash utility. I tried flashing both versions that work for this board, and still the same problem. Even that utility in the bios shows weird characters.

Anyway to no avail..

Even after flashing, I still have the booting problems and weird characters.

It will not boot normally. It always goes to the 'Recovery' screen (below) after the screen with the Windows logo.

I can manage to select safe mode under 'advanced options' through this recovery screen and can boot into my OS and desktop -

Anybody have any idea whats happening w my Bios/CMOS and why I'm having problems booting up ?

The motherboard is an old - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2 with an i7, and my OS is Windows 10 Home.

I would appreciate any advice or even just a clue.

BIOS chip pretty much died. Could be because age or seriously failed battery, don't know, but that does not matter much at this point. I think only physically replacing BIOS chip has any chance to resurrect the board but I can't guarantee that will work.
Perhaps its the motherboards BIOS chip itself to blame

IDE channel 2 Master is also glitched.
was the bios looking like this before you replaced the battery? Perhaps try another battery?

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to remember the details but I think before I changed the battery it did not even boot to the splash screen. It was many days ago and forget.

The Bios did not have those symbols before my computer crashed.

The new battery is definitely good, I tested it.
