Question Streaming from Desktop to Chromecast suddenly stutters

For the past 2 years I was able to do the following steps:

1. Open Google Chrome
2. Cast screen
3. Open my movie or tv show that is saved on my SSD via VLC Media Player
4. Watch on the Chromecast connected to my TV in a separate room

Since yesterday the streaming to the chromecast has suddenly gone bad. It is of extremely low quality and stutters a lot making it unwatchable. Has there been an update I'm not aware of, any setting that I could change ? How can I make my system work again ?

In what way ? On my PC the screen is fine.
