Yeah, I couldn't beleive that statement! Chances are that the O/S was at fault for not shutting down...that or a chashed app.

Talk about nitpicking. Ah well, the results are in, and even THG can't lie about the hard data, they can try and re-word things but the numbers are there for all to see!

# Data compression with WinRAR: AMD system has 29.5% better performance;
# MP3 encoding of the CD: AMD system has 4.7% better performance;
# DivX encoding of the DVD: AMD system has 28.2% better performance;
# 3D game Farcry: AMD system has 21.4% better performance.

Ned, I think you hit the nail on the head...

It is widely held that THG is almost a division of Intel Marketing. What we have learned from this "Stress Test" is that not even THG can devise a test that makes the 840EE look good. I have to say that they did give it the old college try...they chose tests and conditions that are obviously designed to give the 840EE as much of an advantage as possible. They even redisigned it mid-stream when it wasn't giving the results they wanted...
The test is a true testament to AMD's current lead in performance and stability (much to THG's chagrin I'm sure...).

Cheers,
Charles

I think your Thread will never Die... IT is just too good to pass out... We got a band of good for nothings, an undying squeeling P4 pig and a water boiler that THG/INTEL says is a computer processor(P4 840EE yes).

But the worst problem for me is that there are people that buy those things... I can´t just understand. YES I´m AMD FANBOY. WHY? AMD provides cheaper, faster, more stable processors than intel, and ironically people think P4 is better. Have you ever seen those intel TV ad´s? "IF you see this seal (Intel inside) on a computer, you can buy it!"? This is as misleading as hell. Here where I live, people follow this $hit so blindly... worse of all, in Mid 2005, there are people that buy Pc´s to run Winxp with 128 Ram. Oh yeah, if it got a P4 it should run fine!! Intel´s big @rse yes!!!

Same deal with Linux... it´s free and all... and nobody wants to use it. Hheheheehe Scary world ours...

By the way, I´m PDFing this thread...

I just built an A64 rig for a guy and I loaded up LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth so that he could at least see a game (he is a big LOTR fan). As the game loads an ad comes on that says "runs best with Intel P4". He saw that and said that he was a little upset that I didn't decide to go with an intel... they were clearly better. I almost through the game out the window.

Indeed... this is because intel is so afraid that A64 performs much better than their CPU´s that they have to --PAY-- Software devellopers to optimize for the P4. And in some cases A64 STILL performs better.

I agree with earlier post but not this one. Its not being affraid its called marketing. In my eyes, Intel is primarly a marketing compagny, then on the side they do cpu's :wink:
You cannot be this big and not care about your image.
Its liek the nVidia way its meant to be played. I rember tomb raider being part of "The way its meant to be played" and performing like crap on 59xx series. Its not about paying for optimisation its about paying for publicity.

Yes... I agree with you. You´re right. I´m not an movie encoder expert, but I know a lot of encoding software that have and "intel optimized" version. Why is that?

My guess is it was primarly SSE/II/III optimisation.
Also I beleive encoding is much more architecturaly(umm how do you spell that)dependant than ghames. Thats why intel and amd try to "help" developpers to optimize their code(thru their compiler).

Some people can probably explain this way better than me tough!

I want special mention in your docuement :evil: . Without my thread non of this would have happened, as no one else would have bothered to make a thread :lol: [/sarcasm]

Serious dedication :wink:

I don't believe for a minute that any game is "optimised" for Intel. I know that the PC I built this guy could far out perform any intel I could have built him for the same price in that game. I know that it is just a marketing gimmick, but it is frustrating to me. Even though I know that the A64 I built was better, the idiot I built it for doesn't know that... he just listens to what his favorite game spits out at him.

Yes... I get a lot of that too. Specially where at work. Nobody reads anything about computers and think that intel is better because it´s just better...

Wow can't wait for the finail update. We will see if THG stil as suportive of Intel. I stil don't know why they would not test with the 4 app at high priority on both systems and with P4 haveing HyperTreading just to see. I know it stil will be to Intel favor but it just might make dixv look beter on the AMD and the rest of the app may not lead as much.

Ned great fourm just whanted to get it back on the first page again.

Yup it sux but thats what you called Brand Recognition, Intel worked really hard and spend lots of money but now its paying because they continue to sell their produts even if its not as good as the competition!

As for the final update I cant wait!

Does anyone actually believe for a second that if all consumers were educated and saw the benefits of AMD over Intel that AMD could actually provide the sheer quantity needed to fill that demand? Stop thinking of Intel's marketing machine as bad, because until AMD gets some decent production facilities it's saving them (and consumers) from a much more horrible nightmare.

Right now enlightened enthusiasts are actually capable of buying the best CPU that they can afford. Uneducated consumers are reducing the availability of products that the enlightened won't miss. But if that changed and everyone started buying AMD, there'd be no quantities of our products available to purchase. We'd be left with cash in hand instead of processor in box and a great desire for something almost impossible to get. And worse than that, the prices that we're used to paying now would be long gone, because low supply and high demand creates all sorts of nasty inflations and extra middle men looking to make a buck at our expense.

The sad fact is that until AMD actually has the facilities needed to increase supply with an increase in demand, Intel's marketing to the mindless masses is making AMD CPUs a lot more available to us enthusiasts, and I, for one, am thankful.
