My laptop is stuck in safe mode and when i go to the msconfig and go into the boot.ini, the safeboot is already unchecked?? Please help cause i can't run dvds. Thanks

Solution

The issue is that it's not just the resolution, if the video drivers are not loaded it won't work with a lot of things properly.

Go to the laptop vendor support site, install Chipset, Video, Audio, Power Management drivers.
What happens when the system turn on, exact messages that come up? Does it try to load Windows and fails? Any background to the issue, like what happened before this started? Need full system specs, model and brand of the system, what you tried already aside from msconfig check, did you do a disk check to make sure the drive is good? Try a repair setup or a clean setup of Windows?

Hello and thanks for swift reply! So it's a Dell Inspiron 6000. It loads just fine and everything like normal. So i need to give a little history. A while back i got hacked! I knew better but for some reason i fell for it! Basically what they did is the "syskey" crap. So i took it in and told the repair guy what happened, he worked his magic and brought it back to life. Then a few months ago i was doing something with MacAfee and it said i needed to run it in safe mode in order to do whatever it needed to do, i thought when it was done it would take me back to normal, well not me, but it didn't. Then last night when i was trying to watch a dvd i got an error sayin i have wrong display or something or other and it won't play until i get it back to normal mode.

So it just loads safe mode without prompting you? Are you sure this is actually running in Safe Mode and not something else like a changed resolution? Safe Mode will actually say "Safe Mode" in the corners of the screen and will say "Safe Mode is used for troubleshooting, etc..." when the system loads. A lot of times people confuse the system not loading video drivers and low resolution for "Safe Mode".

Maybe you just need to install the video drivers from Dell support page for your model?

LOL! You know, now that you mentioned it, no it doesn't say safe mode any where. So how would i change it back and if it's just resolution, how would that affect dvd playback?
