Subwoofer not working?

Hey guys,
I recently got some speakers with a subwoofer that you plug into the speakers themselves. The speakers ended up not working, so I figured I could still use the sub. I plugged it into my phone alone and it works. I then tried plugging it into the subwoofer audio jack on my motherboard (Asus m5a97 r2.0) and went into the Realtek HD Audio Manager. I then set my audio settings to 7.1 and made sure the boxes for "front left and right" and "subwoofer" were selected, but none of the other boxes (center, side pair, rear pair, and surround speakers). The subwoofer is making no noises at all. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance!

sometimes it helps to ho to the driver settings and set the crossover frequency to about 80-120 Hz

How do I do that?

uff... i'd look somewhere in the speakers settings for a keyword like 'bass redirection' and 'crossover frequency'.
creative has it in the console launcher, so guess other sound cards will have something similar too...

there is probably an option that allows you to flip the center and the sub that might fix it

I actually noticed that it does make sound, but the sound is extremely faint and I have to have my face against it to hear it
