my cpu is overloading pretty often while i am not even doing anthing. i recently did a format in my disk just to be sure and i have antivirus. i know a thing or two about computers so i checked if i had a virus but the antivirus didnt find anything. also i am coming from format (i did it 4-5 days ago) so i am pretty sure i dont have any viruses. even before i format the disk and reinstall windows my laptop was freezing like hell. i couldn't even browse the internet normaly. now the freezes are much less but it still freezes sometimes and i dont like that... also the overheating is a problem since the heavy cpu usage. i removed the dust from the laptop plus i changed the cpu-gpu thermal paste. i get like 80-96 % cpu usage sometimes (i would say that average is 40-50% ) and 40-70 degrees temps while i have chrome with two tabs (one youtube playing a video, the other is facebook) and HWMonitor to check my temps-cpu usage. any idea whats happening behind the scenes and causes my laptop to overload and overheating all the time?
my laptop is toshiba satellite p755-10k and it's 3 years old.

Solution
There could be many reasons for that other than overheating

Open msconfig, select the startup tab and disable the startup programs you do not use

Download, open ccleaner clean your temporary internet files and fix registry errors

Run your virus scan in safe mode, it is more effective there and could rule out a virus

Also, some people find that disabling superfetch from the services tab in msconfig helps lower that

yeah i know about ccleaner i did all that already and the problem is still there. i will try to run the antivirus in safe mode and i will also disable this superfetch thing i dont even know what is doing 😛

as i see chrome is using most of the cpu... although i now have 3 tabs open (facebook, youtube and tomshardware) i can see 8 processes with the name "chrome.exe*32"

Have you set the task manager in to show in order what is actually using up your cpu not just what processes are running? Chrome is better known for eating RAM not CPU usage

true. chrome is eating my ram like crazy. as for cpu usage right now HWMonitor is the most demanding along with the task manager's process, chrome and "dwm.exe" (only these 4 seem to use my cpu), but after disabling the superfetch as the other guy proposed me the cpu usage is lower than before (max 52%, avr 25-30%). i dont know if that was the problem but it definitely helped.

I would say that's pretty much your problem solved then. I wouldn't worry too much about the RAM usage by chrome it's just so typical of it.
