Am i blind or are you blind? 🤔

I have a reservation that they may have changed it now. Because I was under the impression that
second line was Easy Setting Box User Manual -All Languages.

For 15 years, people can drive drunk, never having any accident, but that doesn't mean driving drunk is safe and without any risk what-so-ever.
Essentially same is with outdated OS. For outdated OS, none of the software it runs gets updated. And without software and OS updates, vulnerabilities that are found on daily basis, will not get fixed and patched.

Here's informative video for you to watch. While it mostly talks about WinXP and why it is terrible idea to connect that ancient OS to the internet, same applies to all outdated OS'es and he also explains why;

Nothing is completely safe, and win10/11 have the same risks.
Win7 can update software, don't worry. Mandatory OS change every 3 or 4 years is a ploy by MS to make more and more money:))
Win XP cannot be compared to 7, they have limited features.

Now, back to our topic,
it's still unclear what is better to choose when in game.
FreeSync on or Response Time extreme?

Looks like you read it wrong.

There was download link from the very beginning. Else-ways, i would've not linked it.

Anyone who had Win7, were able to upgrade to Win10 for free. Which i did with my builds. And now, you can upgrade from Win10 to Win11 for free as well. So, what kind of "making more money" are you talking about? 🤔

If you don't like MS, no-one is forcing you to use it. Feel free to pick any GNU/Linux distro. There are 600+ of those, most of them for €/£/$ 0.

In the past, i've used XandrosOS, Ubuntu Eee and Debian. I have Lubuntu on my laptop currently and Linux Mint on my USB drive as bootable OS, that i can install at any given time, either in-place of my Win OS or as dual-boot.

it's still unclear what is better to choose when in game.

You said that you don't play games. So... 🙄

But test it out by yourself and look which is better suited for your feel.

Maybe, but you never know. I had seen it days before you linked it

In my country there was a cost of 100-250€ for a legal copy, but I wouldn't take it even if I was paid. I'll stay on 7, that's for sure.

I said that I don't usually play modern 3D games, but I play mame a lot. Every day in fact. I see not difference in my feel.
If you select FreeSync then the Refresh Rate and Response Time become unselectable, this means FreeSync adjusts them. And what do I choose when I'm not in a game? Manual only says " It is best to set Response Time to Standard or Faster when you are not viewing a movie or game".

When i built my rigs, i also payed €149 for one copy of Win 7 Pro 64-bit OEM DVD. Since back then, OS, legit one, costed money.

Afterwards, Microsoft has generously allowed anyone who has a legit copy, to upgrade to newer version of Windows, rather than buying a complete new license.
Heck, even if you so desire, you can deactivate your license from Microsoft account, install OS to new build and then activate the Win again.
These two aren't something that Microsoft had to do. On the contrary, these two moves lost a lot of potential revenue for Microsoft. So, i don't see how you can claim that Microsoft is after more and more money.

I'll stay on 7, that's for sure.
My condolences. ☠️

So, you emulate old arcade games and play those? Those games run at what? 20 FPS? 30 FPS? Maybe 60 FPS?
If so, high monitor refresh rate and low response time doesn't make any difference. Since game is emulated, it's the emulator that defines the refresh rate and limit of the response time.

Depending on how authentically the emulator is emulating those old games, there can be fixed limitations for refresh rate and response time. E.g 20 Hz/FPS and 5ms response time, since that's how the game behaved originally on the arcade machine.

Manual only says " It is best to set Response Time to Standard or Faster when you are not viewing a movie or game".
This is actually true, since when you're viewing desktop and browsing the web, you have still image in front of you and you do not need as fast as possible response time.

In a similar sense, when you're reading actual, physical book - how fast the pages need to be turned? 1ms? 5ms? More likely 1-2 seconds (1000-2000ms) would suffice.

My condolences. ☠️

You exaggerate. I will be fine, as I have been for 15 years.

Mame runs at 60 fps. So you' re saying that there is no difference and no need to set refresh rate/response time/freesync?
What about when on deskop? Set these to what?

This is actually true, since when you're viewing desktop and browsing the web, you have still image in front of you and you do not need as fast as possible response time.
And what is the cost if I have a high response time, I mean why not? will the monitor be damaged?

In the past I' ve heard lower rt means better for the eyes.

Smart people learn from the mistakes of others.
Normal people learn from their own mistakes.
Stubborn people won't learn even from their own mistakes.

Since you clearly refuse any info i've given thus far about outdated OS, i'm not going to argue further. As i said, your PC and your decision.

Mame runs at 60 fps. So you' re saying that there is no difference and no need to set refresh rate/response time/freesync?
With emulator limited to 60 FPS, refresh rate higher than 60 Hz is useless.

In a similar sense, doesn't matter if car's top speed is 280 km/h or 350 km/h since speed limit is still 90 km/h.

What about when on deskop? Set these to what?
Your call. 60 Hz is sufficient. Faster refresh rate can only make the page scrolling and window moving smoother.

E.g i'm running 144 Hz across the board since i don't want to fiddle with refresh rate every time i launch and close the game.

And what is the cost if I have a high response time, I mean why not? will the monitor be damaged?
No damage to monitor since it is designed to operate with that response time.

In the past I' ve heard lower rt means better for the eyes.
For eyes, best would be if you never look at any panel/screen/TV at all. Or if you have to, blink often so that your eyes doesn't dry out. And every 30mins or so, do look into far distance (e.g outside from the window).
But response time has negligible impact on your eyes health. Panel type (TN, VA, IPS, OLED, QD-OLED) has far more impact on eyes.

1. It is not wise to think that you are smart and others are stupid. Choosing an operating system is not fool proof. It's a choice, not a mistake. Better to see the reasons for this choice.
2. This info was already known.
3. Yes, but what settings should I set? for game and desktop (ref.rate/freesync/resp.time)?
4. Then why this directive? whats the difference?
5. This is what I heard 13 years ago and that's why I had opted for the previous Samsung screen of the rt 2.

Every software, including OS, does get updated for a reason. And for a reason, software is also discontinued and new software developed in place of it.
When you disregard those reasons, there's nothing else to discuss about it.

3. Yes, but what settings should I set? for game and desktop (ref.rate/freesync/resp.time)?
As of what monitor settings to choose - try it out by yourself.
Since i can not tell you what settings you should use. Just like i can't tell you which OS to use.

Using peripherals (monitor, KB, mice, headphones/headset) is all done by personal preference.
Like i said, i'm running 144 Hz across the board (both in-games and on desktop), with 2ms response time. Since that is what is sufficient for my own personal preference, after testing different combinations.
Your preference may differ from mine. And without actually testing it out, none of us know, including yourself, what is best for YOU.

4. Then why this directive? whats the difference?
Did some digging and found this in-depth explanation;

1. You update something if there is a reason, not updating for the updating. For me, changing Win7 to 10/11 is no good
2/3. Problem is that I see no difference in any setting. Why not just put on the maximums?
4. Thanks, although theory is not what I need
