After a morning of troubleshooting I think this is most likely a GPU issue but I am an amateur so maybe a CPU/MOBO or RAM issue? My biggest questions are:
1. Can it be a CPU issue if my computer is turning on and I was able to get a display, albeit briefly?
2. Would a faulty CPU cause my graphics card to chug even if I don’t have a game launched? That seems like definite GPU problem to me
3. If reseating my RAM fixed my display issue for a minute could it be an issue with something besides RAM?

My GPU is the biggest suspect because it is older than all of the other core parts.
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA 1080 TI (6 years old)
CPU: Intel Core i9 (12th Gen) i9-12900KS (just over 1 year old)
RAM: OLOy DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3000 MHz CL16 1.35V 288-Pin (3 years old)
MOBO: ASRock Z690 Pro RS LGA 1700 (14th,13th,12th Gen) Intel Z690 SATA 6Gb/s DDR4 ATX Intel Motherboard (same age as CPU)

For a more detailed explanation on how I got those questions see my detailed story of what I’ve learned so far…

For context, my computer was working great, never had any hardware issues with it for years right up until this morning. I was playing on it last night with 0 issues. This problem seems very strange…

First off I don’t think it is a problem with either of my monitors. They both have power and can turn on and display their own software and such. I think it’s definitely an issue with computer hardware because I cannot even get to the BIOS screen.

When I first turned my computer on this morning, both my monitors turned on, did not detect a display, and then went into power saver mode. I went to take a shower after doing nothing beyond hitting the power button, when I came back I had no display, and my graphics card was chugging and making lots of noise like it only does when I am at the height of a video game where there are lots of particle effects happening.

I started my problem solving by shuffling cables around different ports and power sources and turning my computer on and off a few times to rule out any issues with monitors, cables or power. Then I tried plugging my HDMI and/or display cords directly into the MOBO, bypassing my graphics card (my graphics card is my biggest suspect because it is the oldest of my PC parts) But I could not get a display from my MOBO (I’m not sure that I have ever been able to get a display from my MOBO, this is probably the first time I have tried to)

The most notable part of this story is this: I then tried reseating my RAM, moving the sticks from slots 1 & 3 to slots 2 & 4. I then GOT A DISPLAY, was able to log into my user, launch a couple of apps and start messaging my friends about the wild problem I had… and then… my display went out again. Computer was still on but monitors went back to detecting no input. Most notably my graphics card started going in and out of chugging, sometimes being noisy and then stopping at random intervals, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes for longer. Almost like a clogged motor failing to prime or something. Now see back to my initial questions, thanks for reading about my sad morning.

UPDATE: I switched back to RAM slots A1 and B1 and took out my graphics card. I now have a display from plugging my monitor directly into my MOBO.
