Hi,

I am running Windows 7 64bit with 16GB of RAM. Tonight was streaming some video from Twitch on FireFox and playing World of Warcraft when everything suddenly froze up, World of Warcraft closed and I got a message about being out of memory. I closed FireFox and was able to relaunch World of Warcraft and play without any problems. I had never had this happened before so I'm kind of left wondering if this sounds like a RAM situation or a virtual memory issue. I think 16GB of RAM is enough and I had my virtual memory set to a static amount of 8000MB initial and Max.

I do know Firefox can get quite big if it's running for a while but is that a virtual memory thing? Should I set the Virtual memory to letting Windows manage it? Thanks for any help.

8GB of swapfile should be more than sufficient. Something may have been leaking memory and in that case, more swapfile would only delay the crash some more. Find out what is leaking memory and get rid of it if possible. It could be a Firefox plugin. I have personally never seen Firefox use more than 2GB of RAM even after being open for weeks with dozens of tabs, same goes for WoW but I haven't played it beyond MoP.

Use Process Explorer from Sysinternals or some other similar tool to spy on how much memory your most memory-hungry software is using, that may help you figure out where the problem comes from.

I've also been having this issue. Same situation: Windows 7 Pro x64, 16GB of Ram, PageFile is set to System Settings on my one raid (16GB) and just because I wanted to get it out of the way, I even made my system drive (an SSD) have 5GB with a max of 10GB. This problem only started a few days ago.
