OK...first a question. Do the adapters (HDMI to DP, DVI to DP, etc) actual perform as well as a direct display port cable from MB to the monitor?

Issue: I am building a VR/Gaming desktop and bought a GigaByte MB but it didn't have a displayport. Didn't think much about it as I didn't have a monitor that would benefit from it. However, I found a great deal on a G-SYNC gaming monitor and I want to get the full effect by using its displayport connection.

Will the adapter do...or should I get a different MB?

If a new MB - recommend a good value one who will handle a VR/Gaming build type

Other Components:
- MSI GTX 1070Ti
- I5- 8600 CPU
- Air cooler
- Corsair SPEC-2 ATX Mid-Tower case

Thanks for the help...need to act quick with Christmas approaching.

Solution

You will be connecting your monitor to the GPU not your motherboard so don't need to worry about the motherboard having displayport. Running your monitor from your motherboard will use your cpus integrated graphics instead of GPU. Which is really only useful for troubleshooting a faulty gpu.
