I use corsair in almost all my builds and the 5800x3d 6900xt red devil build is the rog Thor 850w for the pretty lights ..

A good rule is the PSU is the life blood of your pc if you buy a just enough wattage or a cheaper brand and you run the risk of popping not only your PSU but your components as well ..

I usually overkill but not crazy crazy so i wouldnt see any business running a 1600w psu unless it was 4090 13900ks even then thats way way over kill !! 1200w maybe

thanks for the help, think i'll get the corsair, and get a graphics card later, since i looked at my PSU and it only has 1 "6 pin" for the GPU, so getting one right away would suck to have it sit there

sorry to keep posting here, so i installed HW monitor and another one, and it says that my GPU uses 87 watts max, it doesn't seem to go over, so i am wondering if i my PSU has been holding back my GPU this whole time, any help would be nice, thanks

ah, seems more or less the same from what i can tell.

i do have a different problem though, i ordered a PSU and after 2 weeks of being held up at UPS they ended up sending it back to newegg, so now i have to try again, so have to try again, i did find a diff one that might be better. so any advice would be great.

Corsair
or
MSI

There's still a good number of them out there for good prices:

RX 6700 XT:
ASRock Challenger D - Newegg: $330, Amazon: $360

None

RX 6950 XT:

ASRock Phantom Gaming OC - Newegg: $640

So, yeah, the 6900 XT is long gone but all of the others are more than numerous enough to be considered viable purchasing options.

Well, it depends... for modern AAA titles, yeah, it can be a problem, especially above 1080p. For online games, hell, even 4GB is enough. 😆

You're preaching to the choir here. I used to have GeForce cards. I had an Albatron GeForce FX 5200, an XFX GeForce 6200, a PNY GeForce 8400 GS PCI (for diagnostic work only) and a Palit GeForce 8500 GT.

Here's the list of video cards that I've owned since then:

2 x XFX Radeon HD 4870
1 x XFX Radeon HD 5450
1 x Dell Radeon HD 5870
1 x XFX Radeon HD 6450
2 x Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970
2 x Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury
1 x XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT
1 x Powercolor Radeon RX 6500 XT
1 x ASRock Radeon RX 6600
1 x O.G. ATi Radeon RX 6800 XT
1 x ASRock RX 7900 XTX

When I saw that the Radeon HD 4870 offered the same performance as the GeForce GTX 260 for $200 less, I never looked back and never bought GeForce again. My craptop has a GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile discrete card in addition to the Vega 8 that came with my R5-3500U APU. However, since I paid the same price for my ASUS Vivobook with that GTX 1050 as other craptops with the same specs that didn't have it, as far as I'm concerned, I got it for free. 😉

Yeah, but that price will fall to something civilised before too long.

I couldn't agree more. I was using an RX 6800 XT but when I heard whispers of AMD, Intel and nVidia dedicating a huge chunk of their fab allocations to GPUs for AI. I heard whispers that this will cause a new GPU shortage. Coupled with the fact that ATi isn't going to produce a high-end card in their next generation, I was getting antsy. See, the first GPU-shortage from mining was in 2017 and I got extremely lucky because games weren't using Crossfire anymore and so I was kinda stuck with a single HD 7970. I got lucky because out of nowhere, Newegg had the Sapphire R9 Fury for less than half the going rate for an RX 580 at the time. I bought one and some months later, I bought a second one because it was some refurbished Sapphire Nitro (same as the first) for only $100. The second mining craze really got me bad as I ended up paying too much for my RX 6800 XT. I did far better than most but it was still too much. So, this time, I said "Screw this!" and bought an open-box ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC from Newegg for the equivalent of $845USD.

I won't make that mistake again.
Yeah $1300 isn't a great price for a 6900 xt when you can get a 7900xtx for cheaper and save enough to upgrade your PSU to handle the new card!

It sounds really nice. You should post pics. 😉👍

Yeah, the RX 5700 XT was one of the premier cards for mining during the craze.

You may not realise this but an open-box item from Newegg has full warranty. I read their terms and open-box items still get the 30 day return window and they aslo get the full warranty from the manufacturer (in this case, ASRock). Open-box are so-called because they don't come with any extra bits that a new one might have. In this case, it wasn't a big deal to me because the ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX doesn't come with any extra bits anyway. What I didn't get was the premium Starfield bundle but I don't care about that because I already claimed a standard bundle with an RX 6600 that I bought specifically for that purpose. I'll sell it to a coworker for $50CAD off the price. That way, I get the game for half-price and he gets a brand-new card for $50 off.

An incredible coincidence has just occurred. Newegg now has the new RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming for only $56CAD more than I paid for the open-box ($1,199 instead of $1,143) and it comes with the Premium Starfield bundle! I ordered one and have already printed out a shipping label to return the one I ordered last week. Now I'll have two Starfield codes

I actually still have my RX 5700 XT. It's an XFX THICC-III model. It is absolutely GIGANTIC, about the same size as my ASRock RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC (I compared them):

You should update this post with the story of how you accidentally scammed the copy of Starfield from Newegg.

Yeah, $1300 for an RX 6900 XT would be a terrible price, but I couldn't find any at any price.

Nah, I don't want people to start doing that all the time because it could potentially damage Newegg and make them a lot more tight with those bundles. That's why I've been mostly quiet about it.

That's a very good point, I just thought that people would enjoy the story, I didn't even think about that.
