Hello all, been a while since I've been on and I'm back in need of a new hard drive.

I've been using a 1TB WDC_WD10EADX-22TDHB0 that I pulled from an old eMachines unit a few years ago and I'd say its a great drive.

Although with its Geo Metro like speed, waiting for an hour for Windows to boot is not ideal. So I say its time to get a new one, but I don't know what to get.

I might be getting a duplicate of the same drive I have now, not that I really need it, but it'll make sorting files easier. I might also throw in one of my various old IDE hard drives for a little added security, only since I have to break out the adapter for that one.

Then for the main OS drive, it has to be a sata SSD, and I'll have to get a 3.5 adapter since they don't make them in that size and a 2.5 won't fit in my caddies. I do want to stick with Western Digital, just because I have OCD, although I don't have to. I want to spend no more than $150 on one, 4tb would be nice although 2tb would suffice.

Do you really need a 2TB or 4TB disk for the OS?

Yes, I'm not one for keeping applications on separate drives, only files. Although I could just stick with a 1TB, but I'm just gonna accumulate more data till I need another drive.
Just get a WD Blue 2TB SATA SSD.
I was looking at those earlier, I feel like they're too slow, kind of like how the physical drives are.
If I'm not wrong blue was slowest, green was faster, and red was fastest, then black is somewhere in the equation (not sure, haven't used them that frequently). But then again I could totally be wrong with that assumption.

No, the speed for all those drives is very similar (and much faster than HDDs). The main difference is the endurance. Red are designed for storage devices like NAS so they have better endurance (and are more expensive), while blue are designed for desktop applications. Green is the cheapest (budget), with slightly less speed and endurance than blue. I don't think WD makes internal black SATA SSDs.

Oh, I thought they were color-coded by speed, that makes sense now. I'll look around for some different WD drives.

I do think they only made the black drives for laptops only, physical drives of course, its the only place I've seen them, and they're quite old. I've got around 4 of them sitting around somewhere.

You must have a lot of apps to even need 1TB.
