So, this is probably the dumbest rookie mistake ever, but I bought all of my components... then I bought a desk. I put together my desk without even thinking about whether or not the case would fit where it needs to go.

Well, needless to say, I laid out all of my parts and thought -- holy crap, the case looks huge. It will not fit and it HAS to fit in a particular spot. I am bummed because I liked the look of this case, even though it was a lot larger than I expected -- I should have looked at the measurements of my desk, but it is too late now. 🙁

So... I now need to return this case a.s.a.p. and get a shorter one -- Anyone have any suggestions for a case that is 16"-16 1/2" tall and will fit my parts? I wanted one with a window (left panel) so I could drool over my handiwork, but can forgo the luxury, if it's impossible to find.

Here is the list of the parts that I have. I'm frantically searching for something that I like the look of , as you read. I know it is a lot to ask to find a case of a specific height to fit parts already on hand, but any help would be very appreciated!

edited to add: The height of the area I would like to place the case is 17 3/4" so I am assuming anything 16 1/2" or less will have enough air flow. It would be open on the front and left side and only partially closed on the right side and top.

TLDR: Basically, I need to find a case that is 16 1/2" or less and that will fit my parts listed above.

Solution
It wouldn't be optimal, but I guess it's acceptable. If you could really trade that desk for one that is a tad higher that'd be great.

Anyway, I have found this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-case-galaxy03

I am still searching for more cases, basically opening random Mid-Tower ATX cases with good ratings until one that meets the specs shows up.

Current list:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-case-galaxy03
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-case-galaxy02

Edit: And that's it. Those two are the only two cases with reasonable cooling and rating above 2.0 (both have 4.0 out of 5).
Does that height include room for air to flow through the top? If the case has openings at the top for airflow (which most cases do) it would be obstructed it if were the same height as the opening you want to place the case in.

The height of the opening is just over 17 3/4". Would a case 16 1/2" or less have enough air flow? It would be open on the front and left side and only partially closed on the right side and top. Basically the case needs to fit under the hutch area of my L-shaped desk (hutch on right).

Well, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to look. I looked too and found nothing. I did however measure the space "under" the desk and since it's mostly open under there, I think I can put the case on the floor (or, even better -- make a platform and put wheels on it). I won't be able to look at it, but it will have plenty of airflow and be safely tucked away.
