I commend your friend for a cheap and decent gaming Pc. But i mean, that would only really run a select few of games and limit the range of fun you can have on a system like that? He should consider saving to maybe a 600-800 dollar build for many reasons.

I suggest adding another 4gb stick so you can take advantage of Dual channel n stuff.

goodluck

Some areas to improve.
Put an over clockable cpu (but don't expect crazy high overclock) <---This is to shorten the cpu bottleneck.
Put a h97 mobo (it will support the broadwell cpu's form intel) - nice when you want to upgrade to a nice locked i3/i5/i7.
Put slightly cheaper RAM - you won't feel much of a difference.
Put in a TON better psu.
You can add another stick of RAM later. (the mobo has 4 slots for RAM, so no shortage there)
Hope this helped!! :)

P.S.= That deal for the gpu is killer (in a good way 😀)

Solution
You don't want a pentium unless you are going to be doing stuff that literally can only use two cores. The 860k would be best and if you can stretch to an i3 then that would be solid. Dual channel doesn't matter at this budget. Just memory capacity does. As for the case, excellent choice. As for the PSU, not so great. The XFX 550W will be solid. If you want to OC then go for the PSU ykki used. If he wants an intel CPU then get the H81m DS2V no matter what. It is an amazing H81 board.

Hope my two bits helped :)
