Hey guys,

I wanted to ask all of you if you could take a look at my system and tell me if I should upgrade certain components.

I ordered a Corsair H80iGT water cooler for my cpu a few days ago and spent about 110 euros on that. However it was broken so I sent it back and I am using a Hyper 212 Evo (cleaned it and works much better now). Do you think I need a watercooling system anyway? Max temps dropped from 80 to 73 during stress testing. But they really stayed around 60-65 degrees.

So my budget will be up to 200 euros. I mostly use it for gaming, writing documents and programming (study related, not extreme stuff)

System:

CPU: Intel i5 3570K @4.3GHz + Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz LP
GPU: msi GeForce GTX970 Gaming
PSU:Corsair TX650M 650Watt
HDD: 1TB Seagate 7200RPM
Case:Corsair Carbide 300R

Other components:

Mouse: Logitech G502
Keyboard: Sharkoon Skiller (cheap 20 bucks thing 😛 )
Headset: Logitech G430

I was thinking maybe more RAM.. Ive been playing GTA recently, nothing else.

Thanks guys!

That is good system, no really need to change anything serious. Some apps and games does start to use more and more memory. An upgrade to 16GB would not be bad idea. Also, an SSD for OS would help alot and PC will feel alot snappier and more responsive.

I agree with Undying, the only thing I'll comment on different is the temps, the under load temp of 73 is pretty hot. might as well go with that liquid cooler if you already purchased it. That's just my opinion.

Yeah I thought as long as its not going over 80 Im fine. For SSD I was considering the 850 EVO 500GB. Do you think I should upgrade ram to 16GB?

Is there an easy way to Put my OS on an SSD? Without the hassle of making backups of files etc ?

If you have the money why not? Or, you can wait and see how the SSD works out for you. I am a fan of the Samsung Evo's though I use the 840's but haven't heard anything bad about the 850's from any of my pals.

Ehh, I am not the smartest encyclopedia cat...

As for the SSD, I would just get a 250 gig ssd. Then just leave your games and other stuff on the hdd.

Also, I would NOT upgrade to 16 gigs of ram right now. Many games barely use 3-5 gigs of ram. You should be fine for a while.

Samsung Data Migration (included with any Samsung SSD) allows you to do this with just a few clicks.

Why no games on the SSD though? Wouldnt a game like GTA get a huge boost?

the main performance boost you get from putting a game on your SSD is loading times. With a huge open world game like GTA, there's going to be stuff loading constantly, so you'll probably see an appreciable benefit from putting the game on your SSD.

Personally, though, I've put GTA on my 7200RPM HDD and have experienced no stutters during normal gameplay.

Okay, one more thing though.. I am used to having a large amount of data capacity. Bossyfins said 250GB would be enough. I reckon windows is 20GB at the max, and if I just put GTA on there that will be around 60 GB. Also considering you probably don't get the full 250GB: lets say I will have it reduced by 100GB but my current hard disk is near max. I have tons of stuff on it other than applications like Visual Studio 2013 and office. I guess I could fit it in the 250Gb but I am not sure..

Would you rather go with 500gb or is the price for that too much atm?

If you can afford it go wit hit, I use 500gb ssd and for now 1tb 7200rpm drive for everything else, I plan on adding another 500 gb of sdd to my raid 0 and eventually a bigger drive for backups and everything else.

you can always do what they suggest and get a drive suitable for your OS and maybe a bit more and change it down the road, there is just so many options for you :) I didn't notice you had a budget originally sorry I missed that :)

Personally I have a 256GB SSD in both of my desktops, and I'm able to put 3-4 games on each (how many do you play at once anyways?) without worrying in addition to my OS and Office programs.

As many have stated, going with an SSD and more RAM should be your biggest upgrades. And in the event cooling does become an issue I would look into liquid. I run a stock cooler on my AMD FX 8320 E and never get past 35 C'.

And as far as capacity for your SSD. Just get a Samsung Evo 850. 120 GB is just fine for your OS and any programs you use. Comes with a great warranty as well so you wond need to worry about it crashing. They just give you a new one. And if you truly wanted to keep on upgrading down the line you can always buy a bigger SSD and run all your programs off that leaving the 120GB just for OS use.
