Suitable 22" and 24" lcd monitors for gaming??

Alright I'm trying to decide on whether I should get a 22" or 24" lcd for gaming. So far some of the other forum questions have left me confused (S-PVA vs. TM etc.).

I play a mixture of older games and newer ones so I'm after a monitor that will support both. Should I consider the Dell Ultrasharp 2408? How does the Samsung 2253BW compare to the 226bw in terms of gaming??

Can anyone recommend good 22" and 24" lcd's with low response times and virtually no ghosting?

My new system will have an evga 8800gtx or higher graphics card. Is it worth investing in the 9800 series cards?

well im attending to buy the Dell 2408 but A01 revision.
I think its a great monitor.
for all.
the 5ms and the 2 ms is a minor for me .
it may do problems when playing LAN FPS games.
the dell is SPVA which gives the pictures more colors (the TN is miming colors it support up to 256 color and the others its mimes with some software) the SPVA can produce all of the 16.7 million colors.
the SPVA has a larger viewing angles than the TN .
you can get up from your chair and you will still see the same picture ,
on TN you will see it gets brighter or darker.
the TN has a response time of 2 ms
the SPVA has a response of 5 ms.

the best test with monitors is just go , and test it out on the shop , ask the salesman to show you pictures , movies and games , and see for yourself.
I find the Dell 2408 very good .. thats why im waiting for the A01 rev.

Yeah I agree. I've been to the nearest Dell kiosk to play around with the 2408wfp ultrasharp. Shame they didn't have any games to test input lag. I couldn't find any ghosting etc.

Seems the only way people have been able to demonstrate input lag using 2 monitors next to each other. But obviously there is going to be some difference in response times between them. Not really a definitive test. Besides, I won't be running a dual monitor setup - they look too ugly with that space in the middle.

Movies played alright. Some of the darker colours were a bit hard to see (perhaps a bit of detail lost that could be fixed by playing around with the settings?). The size of the bloody thing is huge compared to my 17" crt and 15" laptop lcd lol.

I haven't heard anything about the A01 rev...not listed on their (Australian) website. Not sure what version I'm about to order, might check with dell first.

If you are interested in a 24" LCD monitor with low input lag and if you want true 16.7m colors then you might want to consider the HP LP2475W. This is a recently introduced LCD monitor, and it a H-IPS LCD panel which generally produces better color accuracy than S-PVA panels once it is calibrated.

H-IPS panels also have 178/178 viewing angles and colors shifts less dramatically than S-PVA panels as the viewing angle becomes more extreme. It has a response time of 6ms and the average input lag of 25ms which is better than most non-TN monitors.

I have the NEC LCD2690WUXi which has an average input lag of 32.5ms and I don't really notice any lag. Then again I am not a hardcore gamer; meaning I wouldn't waste my money for a XFire or SLI setup, and I don't expect to play games with high or ultra high graphics quality. I'm pretty happy to play Crysis at 1920 x 1200 with medium graphics quality with my setup.

that chart is with the resultsof the A00 revision (dell 2408wfp)
the A01 has a input lag of 15 ms (which is one frame )
and thats the monitor I recommanded on ..
the dell 2408 WFP A01..
try looking for info about it ..

Yes, that chart tested A00, however I have not seen any test which show input lag for the A01 revision yet.

Therefore, it is the most up to date comparison chart available to my knowledge.

the A01 rev is quite new .. it haven't got into a lot of countries yet.
In Israel is suppose to get into the market in a week or 2.

I must tell you that when I went to see this monitor (the A00 rev)
I was really damn impressed .. its really looks very good.
and I didn't noticed the input lag although there were a few more monitors nearby .
I just don't want to take the chance of buying something that is not good enough so I'm waiting for the A01 and then bang its in my place (la la la la =] ) which suppose to be good enough for me .. its just worth the waiting and the extra bucks (shekels in Israel)

thats my way of thinking.

Then you are merely spreading false information based on what you hope the input lag will be. There's a difference between hope and reality. The best thing to do is simply wait for a review that measures the average input lag of the Dell 240WFP (revision 01).

If you don't notice any input lag on a monitor with an average of 64.1ms input lag, then I wouldn't worry about input lag at all. As indicated by the above chart, the Dell 2408WFP (revision A00) has the worst measured input lag.

"False" was probably the wrong word to use; especially since I was typing my response at 4am in the morning (my time).

Well...

I personally wouldn't put much weight on the input lag of 35ms (much higher than the 15ms you initially stated). The poster (who currently only has 10 posts at that forum) merely lists numbers.

If it were a respected hardware review site that officially reviewed the A01 revision and simply listed the numbers then I would be more willing to accept those number. I actually prefer several screen shots of an LCD side by side with a CRT each screen showing a timer.
