Sumvision external drive

Hi all i got a Sumvision external drive S/N SUM080100163 750GB RJ-45 jack to usb (using at moment) but also has two usb host IE two usb to usb (not tried) I'm running win 7 64 and 32 bit ultimate retail, on a Asus PQ5 Pro

My problem is neither 64 or 32 bit no longer can see my Sumvision external drive ? ..... i say "no longer" because win 7 64 could see it before i downloaded lots of updates from windows update, but even before the downloads i tried to reinstall from a image saved on external drive and win 7 64 could not find it ?, and asked me to load drivers for any external drives ..... which i cant find for my drive ????

am i wrong in assuming usb drives don't need drivers and are just generic ? or what would be a good replacement if it cant be fixed

it should install itself sounds like a usb issue!

luckily while working saved to a 1 TB drive, what would be a good replacement? ..... this was not in win 7 (XP pro) could win 7 be the problem?

i don't think so..a usb issue

Will be the usb controller in the Sumvision, they are cheap and often nasty, if under 1 year, send back to supplier.

what would be a good replacement external drive best suited for win 7 64 bit ......... are u aloud to say here ?
