Ok,
I have a GS-X58A-UD5 rev 1.0 motherboard. Basically, it's an older version of these "updated" G1 series of motherboards. Since I need the 6 cores worth of my i7-980x, I opted to update to the Sniper edition of this board. The ONLY thing updating gets you is MAYBE a little more time for intel to get it's multi-core consumer desktop CPUs straightened out. However, I doubt they will, as the i7-980x, 990x, compete with the Xeon platforms, which vendors get to charge an ARM and a LEG for. In my case, I just want the 6 cores to run VMware Workstation... and THAT does work very well on this updated board, which I can also use for gaming. I can tell you that G1.Sniper is really not very different from the GA-X58A-UD5 Rev 2.0 board, so it's unlikely (unless you need BIOS support updates -smile-) that it truely worth the money to get anything other than the G1.Assasin... and that's provided you can get 4 GPUs running on it. FYI: for the record... the system at fully bore doesn't more than 450watts. I've tested this... and it's FULLY loaded.
