Supermicro Status Code LED shows Code 73 - only just noticed it.

Hi
I have a Supermicro X10SRA-O
It has a two digit display, to be honest I never noticed it working before , as a big GPU sort of blocks the view.
I noticed after the pc was on all day, and just sitting idle I heard a very slight ticking noise, as it sounded like maybe a fan was clipping ( all new Noctua's ..) and having 8 fans I was trying to hear which one it was, and I saw this light and it said 73.
Having RMAed 3 new mother boards my heart sank.
I looked up in the manual and it gave me a link .... Which lead ro an advert for American Megga Systems or something.... Big help eh!
My manual says "LED4 Digital Readout - Status Codes - down load at ami.com etc."
So I did a google search and found this link to ami 4.x for x9, x10 , x11 SM MBs.
In that the nearest I came to it was
"Ox73 - South Bridge DXE Initialisation (South Bridge Module Specific )"
Sooo helpful to a PC illiterate like me!
All I think I know is that the South Bridge chip is the Intel C612 chipset.

So I looked through every single device in Device Manager all are working properly. Other than some i7 Intel controllers, ( says driver not installed) but all the Xeon Intel E5 1650 v3 controllers are working. As I have a Xeon cpu and this board can take a i7 Cpu ... I assume this is normal.

The pc works perfectly and quickly. Never crashes and loads windows fast and flawlessly.
So is this a fault code or is that just a normal status code it ends up at, i.e. what it should show?

I checked in the Bios and noticed I had enabled 2x SSD controllers and it said "Not installed", which was correct, as I was awaiting their delivery. I changed these to "disabled". And rebooted this time it showed "AC". Then I rebooted again and it went back to "73".

The only other issue I have had is I noticed one mini , very high quality 32GB Sandisk Ultra fit USB stick was quite hot after leaving it in the socket all day. But the USB port works fine and other USBs are only slightly warm in the same USB 3.0 port. So I put that down to it being very small ( like a USB mouse stick) .
https://www.sandisk.co.uk/home/usb-flash/ultra-fit-usb?...

I also tried this USB in my old laptop, and it started to get warm there too.

So the big question is should it show Status Code 73. .

i phoned the suppliers supprt, and they quickly said it was a code for "Keyboard OK" but in checking his link it was a generic AmI. Code list for post 1990 Bios's
Underneath that were 3 links to Maerican Magtrends 4.x codes and they all said
"Ox73 - South Bridge DXE Initialisation (South Bridge Module Specific )"

So now completely lost! As my code is 73, not Ox73 .... Does my display cut off the first Ox bit or is this something different?

Any help most welcome.
BTW I ran Intel XTU and all the cores are at 29- 37C dependant on workload.
All the fans are running at only 350 rpm max. So havent kicked into overdrive.

Regarding this slight click noise - I have just installed a HGST 4TB drive do they click?
I thought I would disconnect fan by fan to see when the noise went and if necessary disconnect the HGST drive. To isolate the noise. Its difficult as one can only hear this when you have run it all day and let it ramp down doing nothing in idle mode.

Any help most appreciated especially on the MB status code 73,

Solution
Debug code is always shown even if your system is very well, it just stay at the last state, because when system hang at boot without a VGA signal, the only way to tell is by looking at the code and find out the last system state.
About the noise, I think the most possible is HDD.

Hi Sam
Really appreciate your reply - having had so much trouble getting it running. One more MB problem and I am tempted to throw the whole thing in the dustbin!
Its been a 3 month nightmare!
I thought my difficulty would be building a PC with no knowledge, but my only problem was getting parts that actually work!
Maybe I pushed the envelope with NMVMe ssds etc; but if they certify it as working - it should work. Although SM support in Holland are great, the UK Commercial arm are disgusting pigs to to end users unless they are gigantic corporations.

You're welcome!
It's very good to build computer yourself, it's fun and can learn a lot, it's not a matter you don't have lots knowledge, as long as you like to do it, you will success, of course no one can guarantee his build will 100% work, but fixing the problem is also a process.
I'm touching server-grade hardware recently too.
I rarely rely on customer support because they know nothing but how to copy and paste ready-written sentence... Just do a google search is far better.

I am pleased with it but the horrendous RMA process was frustrating and honestly spoilt the process.
Supermicro support in Holland were fabulous, but the comercial arm in UK don't care.
The nice thing is having full control of upgrades eg Pascal Nvidia cards. I know I can just pull my GTX 970 out and slam in the GTX 1070 as soon as its released and stable?
I dont mind being a settler but would rather not be a Pioneer lol
Plus its nice to have a MB which will accept the new E5 16xx Ver 4 when its released!
In laptop terms that would mean binning the whole thing. Plus like cars I prefer realmgrunt with no high revs. So I put in 8 big Noctua fans running at 300rpm.
Keeps the cores at 29-37C and virtually no noise. Plus with 24x7x365 server grade CPus and Memory running well under the max temp of 67C hopefully they will deliver problem free service. Plus lots of things I put in have 5 year warranty.

A slight negative is one really is "on your own" with each component. E.g. i notice PSE 13.1 only uses I core, but at least the Portraiture one can use 4 cores.
But with no support from Adobe who do you ask is this normal? Have I got a fault or is Photoshop badly built, well thats a YES, confirmed when you hit the 4K screen issues of HiDPI!!

Yeah good job man, so lucky you can have a E5, enjoy it! BTW why don't you use a Quadro card to make a real pro workstation?
For the support... Okay can I say it's normal? Lol, althrough it;s not a good thing... I found many bugs in Windows and MS don't have a way to report it, the online support just copy/paste, I guess I'll switch to Debian after the Windows7 ending support.

Well they were ending the K2200 @ £478 and moving to the M4000 at £646 - both Maxwell so when you know Pascal is coming in with.a GTX 1070 at £340! Twice the power of a 980Ti - it seemed sensible to buy the min basic card back in Feb.
So I got the gtx970 4GB gaming msi for £270. Allegedly it has the power of a M4000?.

But for me I thought well buy the gtx 970 for £270 then sell when its 2 months old never overclocked for £200 - so I lose £70 add £340 is £410 , which is still better than £645! And 2x the power?

Obviously if I dont get £200 then I can wait because in 6 months the 1070 will drop too.

But I did make a mistake in that Nvidia say the 970 has 2x DP 1.2 but the MSI overclocking version only has one DP?
At the time I never thought I would want 2 screeens but now I see it would be handy to have 2 - portrait and landscape.
But the HP 4K screen is great. So might stay with one.

Due to a 3 month RMA MB nightmare I will only actually use it for 1 month! But have owned it for 4!

The E5 1650 v3 is perfect for me as it has a relatively high clock spead for a xeon at 3.5 turbo 3.8 and 6 cores. Sadly most photography software is crapily built eg Photoshop really only uses 1 core ! So a lot of wasted horsepower.
But they will have to change or someone will take their market .... And their support is hopeless too.
