Hello. As the title pretty much sums up, i want to ask if i need a surge protector with my PC?. I have a UPS already installed but i want to be on the safe side.

Thanks in anticipation.

Yes that's what i think, UPS have a range of voltage and when the input voltage dips below or rises up from this range, the UPS starts functioning, but as this particular UPS happen to be a cheap one.

Biggest things to be aware of with a UPS are:
1) A UPS typically has a surge protector but it's much smaller than decent/high end surge protectors. 2000 joules is considered decent. UPSs typically are only a few hundred.

2) Don't exceed the maximum power the UPS can provide. If you're trying to hook up too much you're going to overload the UPS and possibly cause it to overheat and short out. Laptops only typically draw 60-100W (or less). A high end gaming machine and monitor and sound system can draw several hundred. Plan accordingly.

The link is in my initial post too. :)

Thanks for the reply. 1) Okay. Do all UPSs have surge protectors?. 2) Yes i had planned the power my machine is going to draw before buying the UPS.

err.. around 70$ (after converting to USD). :)
