[citation][nom]utengineer[/nom]Special value is relative to the buyer. You may collect Corvettes while someone else collects comic books. Cost of a unique item like this gains value over time. Hence a good investment. Are far as preying, the item was bid on from $200 to the final value of $400. There was demand from people that want this item. Will it be worth $400 in ten years, IDK. Either way, it is a hobby and provides joy regardless of the expense.[/citation]

I good investment to the buyer, but that's it. You can speak consumer utility all you want, but it's still stupid of the buyer to waste the extra money. It could be better used elsewhere while still having the game itself at $60. Simply put, you could do much more with that money than wasting (not economical) it on a video game package that has no realistic future value or use. The whole US debt issue is because the government spends money on stupid crap (failed investments, war, stimulus bills, etc..), but I digress...

[citation][nom]spectrewind[/nom]Here comes another "subscription" game. ...sigh...Too bad. I was thinking of buying. Not now...[/citation]

Most subscription games are worth the money spent due to the replayability/evolution of the game. The original WoW client was significantly different than the current one (regardless of whether you buy the expacs). The gameplay is basically the same, but the content (quests, dungeons, raids, pvp, etc) has risen astronomically. Battlegrounds didnt exist in the original WoW. There were few dungeons/raids. There were a little over a hundred quests originally.

Maybe a game that changes every once in a while isn't for everyone, but in an era of crappy games, I'll pay extra for new content and improvements for a game that I'm already comfortable with. I've wasted too much game money on crappy games, finding one that is quality and has constant content updates is well worth the subscription. Even if SW:TOR turns out to be "WoW in space" it will obviously be highly successful.

[citation][nom]davewolfgang[/nom]What do you mean??!? I got my email (In Texas, which last I checked was part of the US - until we boot ya'll out...😛 ) Saturday morning directly from the SWTOR website. The released the news worldwide.[/citation]
exactly, toms is so late on news it ridiculous. There was an official release on there website on Sat 9/24. Maybe the post was written on Sat., but not released until today. I always check out Toms, but every news article they have, I have already read on a different site days before.

[citation][nom]clonazepam[/nom]Hi. My name is spectrewind. I was thinking about buying this game. It's based on Star Wars, probably one of the highest grossing, money making IPs of all time, if not thee highest. I expected to play it for free, and not pay monthly for what will probably be the greatest thing since sliced bread (of mmo's). I know there's a lot of back end support needed like customer service, game masters available to help and resolve in-game issues, and run events. I figured they were all volunteers. It's too bad I would have to pay for what should be good and timely service.[/citation]

I am happy it isn't free to play. We will get better support and better content that way. If you don't play because of an insignificant fee of 15 dollars a month, who cares. *this isn't really towards the person I quoted because his post sounds sarcastic, but this is meant for the people that are complaining it is not f2p.*

You have no idea if it's stupid to the buyer or not. The only way it's stupid is if the buyer is letting important things go unattended such as buying food for their family or paying rent or something like that. If they have the disposable income and want to buy it, that is THEIR choice, not yours, and it isn't stupid.

Each individual has things that are important to them. Probably someone in the late 70's who went out and bought a lot of the Star Wars figures was called stupid by a lot of people, but when they ended up selling it for a few thousand percentage profit, they ended up looking quite smart. Even if the price hadn't gone up, if they realized the satisfaction of buying the product for the price they paid, it's still a good buy for them.

I have little doubt if an outsider using your own rationale looked at things in your life would find many things that would be considered stupid using your own standards, but you probably wouldn't think so.

It's pretty much turning into exactly what I was afraid of. I was pissed they made this at all instead of KOTOR3. I tried to be open-minded about it, but unless it gets universal near-perfect scores, I'm going to pass.

Hopefully, there will be a 14-day free trial (hopefully they just do it unlike some that have maybe waited too long). I can completely understand why a lot of people would be on the fence. Is it just a profit grabber (episodes I-III) or will there be real value and lasting enjoyment? The main factor for me that made EQ so fun was the people. MMOs can be a game in the typical sense or be a highly interactive chat program. If it works well in both of those areas, and is good for communities (like guilds coming in from other MMOs) and overall can please many different types of players, and allow a player to follow their whim on any given day, it'll be great. I think.

Yes I was being sarcastic and at the same time maybe a little informative. This game has been in the news for quite some time. Subscription based MMORPGs have been around for more than a decade. The popularity of WoW alone is staggering. Everybody probably knows at least 1 person IRL that plays WoW or similar types. I was taking a lil jab at the guy in good fun, but if he had gotten far enough to register a username on Tom's and post comments to articles, I would think at least some of that information had crossed his path by now.

Edit: P.S. My male genitalia is extremely small, and underpowered.

I'm selling my WoW vanilla and BC CE's to pay for this CE. And profiting greatly because I didn't spend a lot on subscriptions in WoW back then... 😉

I bought four CE's $150 isnt alot of cash. And like others stated Star Wars has such a HUGE devoted fan base and many of which are collectors. I bought these as an investment. $150 now is nothing compared to the $2000-4000 I will get in a few years for them.

If you dont believe me search completed listings on Ebay for Original WoW CE's. I had 3 and sold them all last year before xmas new in shrink wrap for $2250. I'll take that profit any day.

the CE is for collectors not regular people they don't care if they get something extra in game it is for them to collect.

also subs are how mmos stay up they have to keep servers up and running and pay for bandwidth.

if you want free crap then go get some if you want good crap pay for it.

14.99 has been the standard mmo monthly price for YEARS
the last mmo i know of that had a sub $14 montly cost was Ultima online and that was 15 years ago and the cost was $12.

Amen to that. I had the EQ sub for $14.99, and for a little while after release, I had EQ 1 and 2 both for that or maybe $20ish. Can't remember. I can't wait to cancel my 'Rift' sub when this hits.
