Swap bios on hard drive pcb

This is not true, a PCB swap will NOT work on most modern drives, you MUST transfer the firmware chip as it contains drive specific data. If you're not comfortable doing this soldering work, I'd bring it to a locak electronics repair show and have them move the chip for you.

I have the new pcb and as u have said, bios chip needs to be swapped. How do I swap the chip? What tools and technics are needed to take the chip off the pcb? What tools and techics are needed to intall chip onto pcb?

:?)

but... tell me the difference... I have replaced the whole pcb... What exactly does the bios on the hard drive pcb do? But the pcb seller also told me to swap out the bios chip before I bought it. My plan is to recover the data lost, and make this HD an external storage. Am I on the right track?

The PCB usually has an 8-pin serial flash memory chip. This chip stores "adaptive" information that enables the microcontroller to locate the firmware modules in the hidden System Area on the platters. Modern drives also fine tune the heads to account for their spread of characteristics (eg differences in frequency response). These calibration constants are determined at the factory.

BIOS is the 8pins (4 pins on each sides) chip with 25P05VP、25P10VP、25F512、25F1024、25F1024AN、SST25VF512、SST25VF010, etc.

You can move the BIOS from your original PCB by using hot-air gun, then solder it on the replacement board. Please refer: http://www.datarecoveryunion.com/hard-drive-rom-chip-swapreplacement/. Or you can find the electronics repair shop to help you.

I have a Seagate ST2000DM001. I broke off the connector to the SATA data cable. Then the pins broke off. I ordered a new PCB board from onepcbsolution.com. I didn't send them my PCB board as I didn't feel comfortable sending it. They agreed I didn't need to send it and I could move the chip myself. I want to say they are a great compeny; they responded very quickly to my emails and gave great advice. The replacement PCB board arrived quickly. The packaging was great; it came in a sturdy box and in a sealed bag. They even included a screwdriver to remove the board from the hard drive.
