My current set up is with a SSD 512gig (OS) and HDD 3tb (programs/storage) and I just got a new 4tb HDD and was wondering what would be the best way to ensure windows doesnt freak out with the new HDD.

The 3tb is sorta old and I dont want to risk losing data plus Win10 only lets me use 2tb (used to use the other 700+gigs in win7) which is another reason to goto the 4tb once its set as GTP shouldnt be an issue anymore.

So like just clone, mirror or backup and restore would be the best bet to swap them out?

Thanks

Solution
Swapping the old 3TB with a new 4TB?
No problem.

Plug in the new 4TB.
Ensure it is GPT formatted.
Copy ALL data from the 3TB to the 4TB.
Swap the drive letters around so that the 4TB has the drive letter that the old 3TB had.
Delete all partitions on the old 3TB.
Done.

Solution
If win 10 is only letting you use 2TB then something is not right with your win 10 install unless you were using the 3TB as OS drive for win 10 & installed win 10 in MBR mode instead of UEFI+GPT mode.
