So okay, I wanted my dad to be able to enjoy using my old PC again by giving it an SSD. I decided to install it and format it on windows 7 keep in mind. Then I downloaded and installed windows 10, onto the old drive as I didn't know how to replace it otherwise.(no usb on me)

Then when the W10 update was done I removed the windows.old as it took up 170GB and the SSD was a OCZ Trion 100 240GB.

Didn't want it full by the start with unessecary things. Oh well, well now I got a problem. After cloning the old drive to the new SSD. My screen starts flickering in W10, ONLY after I've signed in though, this also happens in safe mode. I do not know what to do so please help.

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

Depending on how old the computer is, it may be due to insufficient minimum system resources, outdated drivers and Windows 10 not having the drivers for the computer's hardware... Go to the Device Manager and see if there are devices with a yellow icon indicating driver issues.. depending on what you find, you may want to install the latest drivers for the motherboard (downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's product page)

Start > right click Computer > Manage > Device Manager

Hey, it's 4 years old but it's decent.

i5 2500k
Gtx 560
4gb ram
And now the OCZ SSD. Going to put in some more ram though. And btw I can't do anything. The screen flickers and like I can't do anything except for shortcut commands. Should I do ctrl+r and then the command for device manager? Thx for only answer. I'll be home around 5pm so I'll try it then.

Well, the computer is not old enough for the Windows 10 installation to have such issues... but it's possible it didn't have the appropriate video card drivers and you may need to update it that and any drivers you find with a yellow exclamation sign.. and even if none has the yellow icon, it's still possible it may need updated drivers. Something I've noticed is that from Windows 7 on, they have issues with outdated drivers... they can even have sudden shutdowns untill you update drivers. Install SlimDrivers to automatically update the drivers it finds. Remove the program afterwards or disable all it's automatic functions from the Options.

SlimDrivers download.

If that doesn't help, try loging on with a different user account.

To access the Device Manager:
Start > Search > Type: "devmgmt.msc" (w/o quotes) press Enter...

If all fails so far, see if one of these fixes works.

Well, the problem is that I can't access anything in windows. Wasn't at my dads today so I couldn't try anything but that was 1 of my ideas too. My 2nd pc needs and upgrade and I might just ask if he can but those things then I'll put my 770 and 600w PSU in his rig. I know it's overkill but meh 😛 I also want an upgrade so. Otherwise I'll get a 750 or something really cheap. The 450w PSU from antec should hold up with the 750 and i5 2500k right? Thanks

Okay so I had no luck testing alot of stuff. I don't know yet how to get into low resolution mode tho so I need some help with that. Another problem is that I am too lazy to remove the DVI cable from main rig to this one so ye... do you think a DVI cable will help? If so I will try. Thanks

have you tried using the onboard graphics? the gpu might be faulty, when I first read it I thought the same as Chicano about the drivers. The part that is unusual is not being able to do anything in windows.

That's what I thought too, and hence the thought of buying a GTX 750. The problem is the monitor doesn't have a HDMI input and that's the only thing the motherboard has, I'll have to bring with me an adapter next time I go to my dad's place. Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry if the post is a bit unupdated.

Let me see if I have everything right... correct me where necessary
a) The motherboard has HDMI only,
b) the GPU has VGA. DVI and HDMI,..
c) and the monitor has VGA and DVI and no HDMI

You have tried both VGA and DVI from the GPU, and the only video output yet to try is HDMI from the motherboard to the DVI port on the monitor?

Low resolution can be taken from the GPU from either VGA or DVI, don't know if you can get it from HDMI but possibly. In any case you need to have video display to select the option from the Safe Mode screen... you could also get it automatically from a Windows installation disk but again you need to have display so without it I don't think that's going to happen.

The flickering screen and later loss of video display could be due to one (or more) of the following causes:
1. Bad PSU (try a different one)
2. Bad video card (try a different card)
3. Bad monitor (try different monitor)
4. Bad sleep mode event (clear all memory from monitor and RAM)
5. Bad video cable (try different cable)
6. Bad BIOS (reset the BIOS)
7. Bad motherboard (replace it)
8. Bad CPU (replace it)
9. Bad RAM (try each stick at a time)
10. Bad expansion card (remove or replace unnecessary or suspicious PCI or PCIe card)
That's all I can think of at the moment.
