Switch From an AMD FX Processor to Intel

Last year, I purchased a GTX 1060 6GB GPU to increase my PC's gaming capacity a bit. It worked nicely, coming from an old GT 610 or something like that. However, with games such as PUBG and other processor-heavy titles, the system tends to lag fairly often. The PC shipped with an AMD FX-4130, and I haven't changed it, as I'm not that familiar with all of the inner-working of a desktop. I'm looking to replace this old processor with an Intel, probably an i5. As I said, I don't know much about how computers are put together, but I understand that a switch between an AMD and an Intel processor would be difficult. I'm writing this to get a greater understanding of whether this feat is possible or not, and what different components would be necessary to do it.

Other specifications - message if I'm missing anything:
Memory: DDR3, 8GBytes.
Motherboard: Made by Gigabyte Technology Co., Model GA-78LMT-USB3
Processor: AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core

I forgot to mention - I'm open to any processor that will sufficiently increase the computer's gaming capacity and power. If there is an AMD processor that works better with my specifications, I'd be happy to check it out. Thanks!

im using fx 8350 with gtx 1060 and im happy with the performance .. but in your case the fx 4130 is a bad match for your gtx 1060

if you looking forward for intel , you can go for either i3 or i5 series in 8th gen ,they are far more better than your current processor anyway you need to consider the budget since you need to change new processor , motherboard and RAM .. same applies if you want to go for ryzen ... if you are in tight budget you may want to go with ryzen

I'm leaning towards the Ryzen. My only concern is that the processor won't fit the rest of my setup. Is there any way to confirm that it's compatible with my motherboard and my other components?

The Fx 4130 is definitely bottlenecking your 1060. I would go with an i5 or Ryzen 5. You will need a new motherboard, and RAM as well, as it's a different cpu socket, and RAM has moved on to DDR4.

Do you have any suggestions as to which motherboard/RAM? As I said, I'm not the most tech savvy.

That would depend on your budget. I'll try and keep it reasonable for you.

Basically this is a budget solution. Ryzen 5 1600, AM4 Motherboard, and 16 Gigs of DDR4 memory. The motherboard is purely entry level, so if you can afford it, I would spend a little more.

If cost isn't an issue, I would recommend getting an i5 8600K and Z370 motherboard.

That's awesome, thanks for the help. And I'm definitely staying on the lower end for now, may upgrade in the future. As far as RAM, I'm actually only using 8 Gigs on my current setup, is it necessary to upgrade to 16 Gigs, or would a 8 GB DDR4 be alright?

8 Gigs is fine for now for most situations. But it's no longer future proof. I understand not wanting to purchase more than absolutely necessary as RAM has really spiked in price over the last couple of years. But hey, at least you don't plan on buying a new graphics card.

Either would be a huge increase in ability over the FX4130 and will pair well with the 1060. The Ryzen will only get better with some OC, which can be done upto @3.8GHz on the stock cooler.
