Switch from integrated to dedicated

Hey all

So I just got a new laptop. Its an Asus K52Jc. I am trying to switch from the integrated intel media graphics card to the dedicated Nvidia Geforce 310M and I cannot for the life of me figure out how. I went into the Nvidia control panel and changed it there but its still using the integrated card. How the heck do I change the card? Thanks!

Oh and I did read the manual. Totally useless.

I believe you need to go into the bios and disable it.

I was thinking of that but hadn't gotten to it yet.

Hmmm. The bios was my first though.

Thats a negative. I didn't see any options in the BIOS for graphics options.

When you go into device manager which card is displayed there? I would think Asus would ship it with the dedicated card activated.

@Rolli59 - Both the integrated and dedicated show up in the Device Manager.

@timaishu - I will check that out.

Gonna try and disable the integrated in the device manager. Ill update if it works...or not lol.

Neither of them with a yellow mark indicating a problem?

No they both indicate as operating normally.

And upon disabling the Intel Integrated Card, the Nvidia control panel is gone also. Ran a dxdiag and under display everything comes up as n/a.

Re-enabled the integrated card. Is it possible that the Intel card and the Nvidia card are the same thing? Shooting in the dark on that one.

Prolly just gonna call Asus soon and ask them lol.

Yeah chatting online with the guy from Asus was a total waste of time. Kept telling me that its a Windows problem. Im like...um....no...its a hardware issue lol. They said they didn't know what to do. Wow...way to not know how to tech support your own products. Good job on that training guys!

On the phone now with someone that seems to know a little bit more about what to do. Here's hoping. I don;t want to have a freakin dedicated card and be stuck with an integrated one.

hi, i having the same problem on my Asus A42JC. I think the processor core i5 itself have prevent from swicthing the graphics. I have read on support-asus website, and found that Asus notebook with motherboard series K42JC can't switch the graphics although it have integrated and nvidia graphics display.

Having try update bios, update nvidia drivers but failed.

Plug in the charger, Then the notebook pc will automatically switch to the discrete gfx card. These notebooks with switchable gfx switch to high performance gfx cards when the charger is plugged in and to the integrated gfx card when on battery.
