Switched internet channel, router not on connection list.

So, I switched internet channel in the hopes that my connection would get better, instead I got disconnected from the internet and now I can't see my router on my connections list on my PC, but it will show up on other devices such as the tablet I am using to write this, if anyone has a solution please help 🙂
Also it won't show up when I plug in an Ethernet cable too.

You might have somehow disabled both the wireless and wired adapters on your PC.

Make sure that wired adapter is enabled and correctly configured for your network. You may need to check all of the adapter settings.

Also be sure that your ethernet cable is a known working cable.

Run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) from the command prompt. That will provide details about the current configuration of your PC.

Get wired up and running. Then go back to the original wireless settings to at least get it all working again.

Then revisit the channel change.

Prety sure everything should be enabled because I did a format and reinstall of Windows after the error just in case

Still suspect some configuration issue. Something in your adapter settings that was overlooked or misconfigured.

Possibly some default setting that was reinstated versus the setting needed for your computer and network.

Run "ipconfig /all" on both the PC and the tablet. Compare the results. Or post them if you are not sure about the results.

So, I plugged in the Ethernet cable again, the light is green but it is not showing up anywhere on my pc also other routers shown up on my connection lists just not my one, anyway, I did ipconfig and it says "Wireless LAN adapter wireless network connection" then under it says "Media State...... Media disconnected" any idea what I shall do now?

If you are connecting wired then you want the wireless LAN adapter disabled. Make sure that the wired adapter is enabled and configured to your router/network's settings.

One adapter or the other - not both.

It appears that the wireless adapter is still enabled and seeing other wireless routers. Your computer cannot connect to them because of the security settings etc. And not connecting to your own wireless router for similar reasons.

You have to go into the wireless adapter settings and configure the adapter to match your network/routers settings.

I unplugged the wireless adapter and plugged In the Ethernet cable and restated my pc and now there is just a red cross over my connections list where as before it would show my neighors router, now it shows no routers. I did try set up a connection using my routers SSID and password but that gives me an error saying "Connection failed with error 651"

Yes, the red cross is expected if you disabled the wireless (USB?) adapter.

The error message will help. I did a quick "google" on it and there are quite a few links available.

You should do the same and look at those links that seem most fitting to your situation and setup.

Anywa: go into the wired adapter settings and reconfigure the adapter for your network. Set wireless aside for the moment.

Work via the Network and Sharing Center. Use the troubleshooter to see if Windows can identify and fix the problem(s).

If that does not work please provide the make and model of your router, your wired adapter, and "ipconfig /all" results.

Then we can work on getting the overall configuration reset.
