Switching 6950X for 6700K for better gaming performance. Worth it or not?

Hi.

i've been told that the 6700K has better single threaded performance and would do better at games than a 6950X. Is a trade (not a real trade i will buy a new cpu) worth it? I already have a 1151 motherboard laying around... Also i'm sticking to win7 so if you're gonna recommend something keep in mind i'm restricted to 6th gen CPUs...

Anyway would it be worth it? If it is, will i miss quad channel module?
If it's not worth it, please explain why to me as i'm not very knowledge on the subject...

Thanks in advance...

The 6700K gets slightly better single core performance (roughly 6%) which is definitely not a reason to get rid of that 10C/20T CPU. The difference is very minimal, maybe a few FPS but in the long run the 6950X would be the better CPU due to the extra cores/threads.

Have to agree, the 6950 is better especially as multicore is becoming a stricter requirement, and as it's not a straight swap.

The 6950X on a good X99 board with good cooling runnin gat 4.5 GHz should last another 4 years... (And for the $1500 this CPU initially cost before being booted off the proverbial 'top of the HEDT hill' by 79xx series/X299, it darn well should last at least a few more years!)

No way I'd step down to a 6700K (or even 7700K for that matter) in the hopes that an extra 100-200 MHz OC will lead to a victory here and there....
