Switching from AMD to Intel

Hello,

not long ago I bought AMD FX-6100 and now I see that this CPU in gaming is bad. I can't even play Battlefield 3 Multiplayer without lag. So I decided to sell my FX-6100 and mother board and buy Intel i5 3500p with new mother board, of course. I need help picking up new mother board, so which you would recommend to me? Maybe you know better CPU at similar price? Also, I have Asus Radeon HD 7850 2 Gb and 4 Gb x 2 1333 Mhz RAM. Would this GPU and RAM work with Intel? I could spend ~230 USD on CPU and mother board.

P.S. Do you agree with my decision switching from AMD to Intel or should I stay with AMD?

Didn't you already have a thread basically about this same issue? CPU wise, an 8320 paired with a nice cpu cooler would be my choice. You will probably need a bios update. It is the most cost effective upgrade for you. A nicely overclocked 8320 will outperform that i5. Also, BF3 likes more cores.

So should I get AMD FX-8350 or AMD FX-8320 or Intel I5 3500p, if I want to play BF3, BF4 at least on Medium 1080p and maybe BF5 (if that game won't be PC destroyer)?

8320 and 8350 are essentially the same chip. Just the multiplier is set lower on the 8320 like the Phenom II 955 was vs a 965. I personally don't play FPS games, but the 8 core FX chips do well in BF3 from what I have seen others say. In other games a clocked 8320/8350 would outperform that i5 since it is much more limited on clock. Only the k series chips are fully unlocked.

So you all would recommend to buy AMD FX-8320 for Battlefield 3 Multiplayer and not to change my mother board and procesor to Intel? I read that Intel I5 is better for BF3 so I don't know which to buy. I made a mistake buying AMD FX-6100 so I don't want to fail again.

"There is one more thing for you to consider when you are deciding between any two processor and that is upgrade path. If you go the i5 route, you get a powerful processor which will be great at gaming but you won't be left with much of an upgrade path as the new Intel architecture, Haswel, will not be backwards compatible with Sandy Bridge socket.

With an 8320, you do get a chance to upgrade to AMD steamroller when it comes out. Which means you won't have to go run buy a new Mobo"

This guy talking true or not?

Your chip is Bulldozer based while the 8320/8350 are Piledriver/Vishera which was are nice improvement over the BD based chips. What cpu cooler do you have?

I have stock cooler, that came with the CPU.

So if I would buy Intel I5 3500p and after a couple years I would want to renew my PC, I would need to buy new mother board like that guy said in my pasted text? Or I could buy only new CPU? And noone answered how my Asus Radeon 7850 2 Gb would work with Intel.

If I remember your previous thread, you were having issues with temps of like 65c. Might want to just try an aftermarket cooler first. You could be thermal throttling when you get into those higher numbers of players during multiplayer. The CPU works much harder in those cases. Intel would require a new motherboard now and if you wanted a new chip in a couple years. 1155 is being replaced with a different socket in June when the new Haswell Intel chips are released. The 7850 will be fine with either Intel or AMD.

If I'll need new mobo if I'll want to buy new Intel CPU, then I'll probably pick up AMD FX-8320. Would that be a good choice for Battlefield 64 men Multiplayer?

Just interesting, how much 8320 is better than 6100? How much more FPS I should get with 8320 than with 6100 in BF3 MP?

Don't even know what to do... How do you think, is it woth it to pick up 8320 for Multiplayer gaming or not?

You can upgrade to steamroller next year without buying a new motherboard, the AM3+ socket is fully supported by AMD through 2015 minimally.

Also, the 8320 is significantly better than the FX6100. The 8320 in BF3 multiplayer will run it around 70-80 FPS with your HD 7850, most likely on high-ish settings as well.

FX 8320 is better since it can be well overclocked and the i5 is limited due to it not being a fully unlocked chip. Get yourself a decent cooler. A Coolermaster Hyper 212 is nice if your case can support that big of a cooler. It requires removal of motherboard though, unless you have access to the back of the motherboard in your case. A TX3 or T4 would enable to use the same style of mounting as your stock cooler.

My friend has Intel I5 3500p, but he's playing on High 1024x1020 resolution and gets about 70 FPS with GTX 650 1 Gb. Would I get similar FPS on High, but I would play on 1920x1080?

I think I'll wait a little or buy Intel CPU. Because i have a feeling if I buy AMD FX 8320 I'll get similar things that I get now. I don't trust FX anymore, because of these CPU tests on the internet and from my personal experience.

Look at this...this is on Crysis 3 which is WAY more CPU intensive than BF3 MP

Frame rates there are in the 60's on high...what are you worried about? BF3 will be quite a bit higher frame rates.
